Oil pressure gage reads high
First time post, need info on high oil pressure reading. My ZR-1 (90 #2940) oil pressure gage pegs out and will only drop to 3/4 when engine warms up and is at idle. Per the GM bulletin 91-451A-8C I replaced the sensor (from Tom Henry Chevy) hoping to clear up the problem. After installing the new sensor, gage registered a little over 3/4 on start up of warm engine and dropped to 1/2 at idle. All seemed well as I reved engine, pressure increased and never exceeded the 3/4 mark. Patted self on back and called it a night. Next day cranked up only to once again see the gage pegged out. Drove around for about 30 minutes and gage dropped to 3/4 at idle but would peg out as rpm's increased. Anyone have any ideas, Thanks for your time.

Re: Oil pressure gage reads high
was there any oil at the connector?.....did you clean the connector by spraying contact cleaner inside the connecting slots?...thinking there might have been some oil there that have run down overnight and given you a bad reading just as if the sender was leaking again:)

Re: Oil pressure gage reads high
No oil leaks were in old sensor, contact still shiny and new, car only has 2500 miles on it. I traced the wire as far back to the plenum and it appears to be good to that point. I think I will connect a manual gage to see what actual read is and trace the wires entire lenght.

Re: Oil pressure gage reads high
The shop manual gives a procedure using specific value resistors in place of the sensor to see if the gauge is reading properly.

Re: Oil pressure gage reads high
Just go to the Auto Parts Store and buy a new one and throw it in and try it. They are cheap...less than $20...and there's nothing special about them.
