Kind of a sad morning for me.
My red on red 1990 ZR-1 just hit a major mile stone on the way to work this morning. At almost 23 years old just hit 100,000 miles. And although
I know it's easily got another 100k left in it I wish it didn't have that many miles on it. But it is what it is and from the time I bought it with 68k on it I've had a blast owning and driving it. http://s301.photobucket.com/albums/nn63/keeno1970/?action=view¤t=2012-08-14_07-40-34_24.mp4 |
Re: Kind of a sad morning for me.
I guess that is why some people have two of these cars..ha! If only I had the room. I'm glad you only just stated you reached a certain mileage, because when I first glossed over your post it read like you hit a major stone- I was gonna try to find out what broke!

Re: Kind of a sad morning for me.
Well, mebby dis will put a smile on yer puss...
A while back I dropped by Marc's shop after he recently had a Z there with 170k on it; a Z that was used extensively on the road course gambits. It was sent to Marc for an assessment and freshening/overhaul as needed. Marc told me that it really didn't need anything! It was ready to go out and play some more. I'm convinced that anything we have come to learn about SBCs (or BBCs too?) does not apply to this jewel we love called the LT5! Ride on, buddy! May your permagrin never stop! P. |
Re: Kind of a sad morning for me.
Look at it this way that is only 4,350 miles a year :)
BTW When I read the first part my heart dropped with the "My red on red 1990 ZR-1 just hit" Daniel |
Re: Kind of a sad morning for me.
I wouldn't be sad at all....
I bought mine with 23k miles and I'm going fast @ 70k. Will love it when it goes over 100k and more. It's a milestone, but they can go MUCH further! :salute: David |
Re: Kind of a sad morning for me.
You know high milers have personality; best part is who cares how much you drive it, if its dirty, scratched, etc. Guy in Crystal Lake has an original 289 Shelby Cobra(he has 2 actually)....he drives them, they are scratched, dinged, dead bugs on the front, rotted leather seat belts, but the car is "as is" from the factory. One of the coolest cars I have seen....it is gathering a history. Owning a car means nothing, but the expereinces you have with the car and memories you build are what counts.
I have hardly driven my 92 this year, but racked up miles on my 140K mile 90. I take my daughter out for for drives and that is what makes the car meaingful to me; ice cream drips on the center console, a rogue french fire under the seat....its all about the experience. |
Re: Kind of a sad morning for me.
I hope that my 6th digit is burned out by the time I cross over. If I ever do It'll be doing 150+ when it happens! 55K for me now.

At 42 I'm sure that this is just the first of many ZR-1's that I'll own in my lifetime. And it's going to be allot of fun shopping for the next one. I've learned allot on this first ZR-1 and shared what I've learned with others. Even gone to their houses and helped work on their ZR-1's with them.

I think of high miles the same as I do women. Not everything gets better but what does it priceless. |
