Ram Dual Disc Clutch vs. Traditional GM clutch
At the Gathering we were itroduced to the Ram Dual Disc Clutch.
http://www.ecklerscorvette.com/corvette-clutch-kit-ram-dual-9-5-disc-lt5-1990-1993.html I heard several people have already installed these in their cars. My questions are: 1. How does it compare to the traditional GM clutch setup? 2. How was the install? 3. Would you recommend the dual disc or the Ram single disc for a stock engine that is taken to the track from time to time? 4. Streetablity of the Dual disc? I quess what I'm really saying is for the guru's to give me some pros and cons so that I won't have to be the quinea pig here. I know the company is reputable, the design is sound, I like the hydraulic throw out bearing vs the fork and weight loss, although I really would prefer a manual clutch. :dancing It is JMHO but this type of setup will have to be the way of the future for our cars due to the problems we have in the bellhousing area. Re: Ram Dual Disc Clutch vs. Traditional GM clutch
the single disc will be just fine for a stock lt5 . will also work well with a top end ported 350 .the stock clutch is junk the pull type pressure is not flat so it only rides on about 1/3 of the disc after thousands of miles it will ware in o work so so . the 9.5 dual disc is the best it will probably be the last clutch you will ever buy for the lt5

That was my thinking on look at it. But interested in the installation of the throw out bearing alignment shaft to the transmission?

Re: Ram Dual Disc Clutch vs. Traditional GM clutch
I really like my Stage 3 from Carolina Clutch
http://www.carolinaclutch.com/Conten...te-lt.htm.aspx Plus I went with a alum. Fidanza http://www.carolinaclutch.com/ShowIt...0Flywheel.aspx but be ready for the syncro gear rattle since the dual mass is gone. |
Re: Ram Dual Disc Clutch vs. Traditional GM clutch
the bolt is supplied with the bearing all You need to do is drill a 1 inch to a1 1/4 inch hole in the bellhousingat about 4 o clock, there is a nice flat spot there, this allows you to stick a screwdriver in and line up the bearing

Re: Ram Dual Disc Clutch vs. Traditional GM clutch
Bob, is the ram clutch too stiff at the pedal for comfortable street driving?

Re: Ram Dual Disc Clutch vs. Traditional GM clutch
Brett,it's a bit firmer but very precise feel, the stock clutch is way too soft.
I have a dual disc Ram in my Z and just love it,it's the best clutch set up i've ever had.:-D I'm very happy with it. Pete |

Re: Ram Dual Disc Clutch vs. Traditional GM clutch
Bryan,i've had this for about a year,it replaced my old Stage 3 set up, i hated driving the Stage 3 in traffic too grabby, this dual disc holds the power and drives like a stocker.
For the extra little bit of money you get new aluminum flywheel, 2 clutch discs,throw-out bearing and all the hardware needed to finish the job. Brett, you can test drive anytime you want brotha. Pete |
