Re: Oil Filter removal...
I let my oil drain overnight and take the filter off the next day and never have a drop of oil to worry about.

Re: Oil Filter removal...
The oil filter has a valve that prevents any oil from draining out. Just unscrew it.

Re: Oil Filter removal...
Heres a little advice for ya.Dont poke a hole in the filter thinking this will drain all the oil into the motor.First time I did an oil change couldn't figure why the oil wouldn't drain from the filter.

Yea, beware the cheap filters. Just do not try to spin it off if the car hasn't been off for about 20mins. If you try to pop it off right after shut down you will get some leakage. :o ask me how I know.

Re: Oil Filter removal...
I only had to wait an hour or two when I removed my suspect Bosch filter.
btw, it seems to be true that some of the Bosch filters don't hold the oil as well as they used to, because I was getting some chain tensioner rattle with that brand. I put the wix one on and it was noticeably improved. |
Re: Oil Filter removal...
Yea, I would not poke any holes. Just wait, over night if you can and it's 100% no spill. If not then I'm with Mike on about an hour to be sure.
Unless you are getting a ton of rattle on subsequent hot restarts, I wouldn't sweat that the drain back valve is completely a pos. If you're pressed for time I'd wait at least 1/2 an hr though. Tom |
