A question about export cars and full wheel flairs.
Why is it that C4s that were exported to Japan,Europe had to have complete wheel flares for all wheels? This is something Ive never really thought of until recently but Ive never seen a Ferrari,Porsches, Lambo or any other car with these tacky flares. The tires on a Corvette are pretty much in the same spot in relation to the fender,front- rear as these other cars but only the Corvette is required to have the flares.Just curious.

You have a very good question. I am curious to know because here in Japan I have not seen a single C4 with fender flares. The first things is these folks yank off all the export items and convert their cars to look like US spec. Some of the items are put on in order to pass inspection and then taken off again. For example, if you look at this Corvette dealership you will see that only one of the C4 cars have the flares, nor do they have the breakaway mirrors. I only see the amber fender markers and amber turn signals in the rear, but one of them does not have it at all.

Because those countries require that the wheel well sticks out further than the stock opening. and im refering to the lower edges where it sweeps inboard I had to take a corvette through inspection in Japan and I only had the wheel arches on for the inspection and then they came off. |

At one time, I had a pair of export front GM flares. Sold them before I ever made molds of them. Kinds dorky looking, IMO.
