Need help w/ front speaker panel!!
I'm replacing the carpet this weekend - or going to try to. I got about 2/3 of the old carpet out, but I'm stuck and I'm hoping someone can tell me what I need to do...
The Question: How the heck are the panels on the front next to the floor (by your feet) held on? The panel covers the speakers, and I can't find any screws or fasteners...Does the damn thing just pull off?? Or what? Anyone out there not taking advantage of this glorious day to be driving that can hep a feller??? TIA, Paul. |

On the 91, they are part of the door sill cover.

Actually, I believe the car spend a good bit of time in the sun. The carpet is sun burnt and is beginning to show (what I call) dry rotting to where the knap (sp?) has rubbed off along the edge wherever there was a turn. Most of the damage is in the cargo area. The paint is bright red, and the red interior is flame red. (i.e., bluish red). I'm not an interior decorator, but I can see when two colors of RED don't complement each other, and bright red/flame red...ain't doing it for me! So, Torch Red carpet is going in, and I'm adding some black highlights such as floor mats and a black cargo mat - really looks good; the red/black interior. But, yeah...There is some super-duper adhesive - looks like it was put on with a caulking gun - holding the vertical pieces and the pieces on the hush panels. It's like skinning a deer: pull on a corner while slashing the glue between the old carpet and the various panels. It will take some time to get the old carpet off and panels cleaned up before installing the new carpet. But, it is progressing. I'm taking pix as I go. (Just for YOU, Cliff!;)) P. |

That carpet doesn't normally do too well being pulled off. If you are careful (and lucky) you can re-use it.
Good luck!!!!!!!! |
Re: Need help w/ front speaker panel!!
I had these panels off on my car just recently. Mine had some weird black gloop 'glueing' them down and also had some velcro strips near the speaker housing area. Took me a while to figure out and get them off.

Fortunately, this is my 3rd carpet installation, this just being the first on a C4. So, intimidation is not a factor (but then, I'm not a timid feller by nature either!;)). But, this is a 21 year old car and plastic parts are brittle as hell. So, 1/3 of the time will be spent fixing plastic stuff per normal, I recon. P. |
Re: Need help w/ front speaker panel!!
The plastic inside the carpet seemed pretty flexible on mine (designed to be bendy I think) so that wasn't a problem. The screw tabs on the Bose housings were another matter - broke with a slight catch on the other carpeting. Had two screws holding each carpet panel (plus gunk and velcro) on each side. Need to also take the plastic trim running up the back of the door way off as well, then you can kind of rotate the carpet trim around and out after freeing the velcro etc.
First one took me about an hour to figure out - second was off in about 10 mins :) This was quite useful but my carpet only had two screws. http://www.zr1netregistry.com/frontspeaker.htm |
