LT5 Motor #011 Data To Look At

I have access to an early LT5 engine block. It has #011 stamped into it and also hand written in paint pen (Scrapped 12/87). This shoudl be a PhaseI or PhaseII block. It is built for simplex chains.

Just a few numbers...
Block 10090511
Block hand scribed 12 23 87 53076
10090508

Could this be the 11th LT5 produced at Lotus? I will chack my Progam Status report for further data.

I checked my Program Status Report. It looks like this was the 11th PhaseII engine block. There is some data in the report for two factors.

I knew that book would come in handy one day for something.

Any idea where those prototype blocks were cast?

I'm sure I can find out.

Could it be one of the 350 hour durability test engine?

The chart Engine Test Bed Hours - 1987 has engine no. 011 being used for "Chevy 350" which I assume to be the 350 hour durability test. ("page" 3,002)

Later on "page" 7,005 there is a description of engine 011, build 1, phase 1 on the engine test stand. Start date 9/12/86, removed from test bed 12/3/87 after a broken timing chain. 92.66 total running hours and a few problems along the way!

That was one of the data points that I found in the Status report, also.

I hope you like the Report. Pretty cool stuff, huh?

Cool stuff indeed! It's very curious to see some engines have problem after problem on an engine dyno, and others run 15 to 20 hours and installed in vehicles for testing.

Truly an amazing engine with a fascinating story.

The PhaseI and PhaseII blocks were cast in the UK, according to Geoff.
