Making Molds For ZR1 Panels

After Scott got rear ended, I began thinking about panel availability OR NOT?????

I have an extra rear clip and have decideed to make molds of the following panels for future needs by the Brotherhood. The molds will be as follows:

* Rear Upper Surround Panel
* Door Jamb Extensions
* Rocker Panels
* 1/4 panel between door and rear tire
* Rear Bumper

I will not make the molds until this Summer but I'll get them done.

Thoughts????

I hope you realize the cost involved in that venture. I looked into getting molds made for right and left side 49th street rocker panels. It was far more money than I was willing to dish out of my own pocket. Now if everybody from the forum was willing to kick in money to have them made that's a different story.
The other plan is for me to machine the molds myself at work on the big cnc mill. But id have to take mine off of the car and get them scanned/xrayed to extracted the surface contours so a model can be generated with solixworks or ProE then I can generate the cnc program to make the molds. Still a massive undertaking but still doable. $$$.

How much are we talking about for a mold of this kind?

Brett,these parts are still out there,one would have to dig a little but they can be found.The one part that seems to be the hardest to get is the bumper moldings for 91-95s.Ive got one complete side minus the small dogleg trim if somebody wants to make these.The dogleg trim from a base car is longer,can be shortened for a pattern for a mold if necessary.

As Lee said, I do make my own molds, so the cost of the molds is not that much. Just time consuming. I will do these over the next few months. I won't do a CNC mold concept. I make my own friberglass molds as well as some urethane molds for small parts. I have a urethane mold for the GS Euro flare extensions and also 1953 hood pucks. The fiberglass molds will be fairly easy.

I would be willing top make the 91-95 bumper moldings IF someone lets me use theirs for a pattern.

I just see a future need for these parts, going forward and no one seems to have made a comitment to the cause.
