Cause of Blowing A/C Clutch Fuse Corrected

My 1993 ZR-1 had an A/C problem. The A/C Clutch 10 amp fuse was blown and since it provides power to the A/C Control module, all control and indications are lost.

My plan was to replace the A/C compressor and clutch.

However, after pulling the plenum, I discovered that the problem was a pinched wire to the compressor clutch:

Apparently the wire had been pinched between the plenum and injector housing. After the insulation wore through, the wire was shorting to ground, blowing the fuse.

Easy to fix by removing the lead from the connector and sliding a short piece of shrink tubing over the wire.

Everything OK now.

Nice find, and much easier than opening up the A/C lines!

Saved one compressor!? That's great. Sorry I missed out on this get together.

The good news is: I didn't have to disconnect any freon lines.

The bad news is: I had the shop suck out all the freon before the job.

Scott stopped by (with his Z06). We talked about C4 rear suspension dynamics. We missed you.

Ahh, that sucks. I wondered how you were planning on handling that. Apparently, the legal way. ;)

Great find Jim, too bad you had the freon sucked out.

Any difference in performance? Could have caused vacuum or coolant leak if it kept the gasket from sealing.

It appear's the green AC line was pinched between the compressor and plenum.
