Clutch Engagement

Ok, just installed my Fidanza FW and sprung hub clutch and I now have a lot of chatter upon engagement. Those of you with spring hub clutches and alumnium FW's, is this due to the nature of the sprung hub clutch and I just need to learn how to drive her or do I have a mechanical problem?

I think you have an issue. I wish I knew what the issue might be, but mine makes no noise or chatter at all with the sprung hub.

Mine doesn't make any chatter either. There is however a noise that could best be described as sounding like a box of rocks under the car. This is due to the aluminum flywheel and is common in most applications.

Does the clutch engage properly and is it smooth operating the pedal?

You're in a great area to have someone look at your car if your worried about it. Contact Ron Kreigh or maybe Jim Voter. Maybe they'll pipe in too.

Yeah, Jim helped me put the clutch in. The only thing I can think of is that maybe I didn't get the FW dowel pin hole widened enough and the FW is not seated on the crank. It felt seated but must not be. My fear is now that the thing is torqued down, I may have distored the FW. CRAP!!! I may be put'n the DM back on

Don't panic, it is probably not anything major. I would doubt thats the issue(warped), did you replace the throwout? Mine started to rattle just before it came apart. If it was something major the thing would sound like hell the entire time.

I initially put the flywheel on without opening up the dowel hole. I thought it felt OK going on, but after exchanging emails with Marc, I decided to take it back off and open that puppy up. It did make a difference.

Just hit the track today and all went well.

Lee,
Yeah, new throw out bearing. The car shift OK, but just the engagement is very chattery.

Re: Clutch Engagement

My first suggestion is to verify that the clutch hydraulics are operating properly. If that isn't the problem, we will have to pull the clutch and flywheel again.

Jim
