Oil catch can

Once I established it was a generic part, I ran a search for "oil catch can" on fleabay and they are showing up anywhere between $20 (inc. shipping!) to $90.
Some of these look real good with oil level indicator and all.

Re: Oil catch can

be careful, some of the $20 ones have no baffling to separate the oil out

The ones I'd seen with oil level indicators seemed to be rather large. It would be nice to have the capacity, but I'm not sure where it would fit in the engine bay.

Why would you need capacity?? I would think that this would be checked once a week or so and emptied. Hopefully there would not be more that a couple of teaspoons full. I went and looked on ebay and they sure have some that really look pretty cheap. I don't think that I would install a inexpensive one on my car. Just MHO....:)

I Like the one Jeff uses but I need to see how it breaks down and the ease of disassembly first before I pull the trigger. Jeffvette mentioned making one a while back but had zero interest at the time. I dont think thats a true statement anymore

I don't particularly want to have to check under my hood every week, so it would be nice if you could have it go every oil change, or at least a while. But like I mentioned, I don't know that there's a lot of room for a big one.

I was thinking front right or left. A little long and got to watch out for headlights, though...

Goldie, I ordered one yesterday. I figured by the time I got around to making my own and trying to find the parts that I would easily have the 145 bucks spent running around. It come with everything that is needed. I will probably have to make a different bracket but that is small potatoes.

=Jeff=

Is this ZR1 specific in terms of mounting bracket? Or do we need to modify mounting as needed and location?

no this one, like most is C5 or C6 specific.

I looked into this for use with the Raptor turbo systems. This one was one of the front runners of the ones I bookmarked. I have not used it, so can't endorse from that aspect. Comes in 4 different anodized colors.

All of the ones posted seem to be similar in terms of an intake that has a media in it to condense the oil, and then a long tube that puts the can entrance lower than the exit to further separate the oil.

What about this one in particular jumped out at you? Some sort of performance/design thing?

I figured I'd get the custom corvette accessories one simply because they are local to me. I can drive down there and look at it before I buy.

But I'm curious what you found significant when evaluating these?

Many of the products had no mist extraction or retention capability. Some were plastic, some had in & out fittings straight across from each other, just holes in a can.
This one atleast incorporates features to extract oil from vapor and keep collected liquid away from the vacuum source. Looks precision made, durable & looks good.
Looks similar to the red one pictured previously.

Ok cool. Was just wondering if there was something further that you found important in a catch-can.

As you noted, the one Jeff posted up has similar features, as does this one from CCA:

For me, they are local (though they were moving locations this weekend! So I've not been able to pick a can up yet) and there seems to be nothing wrong with the can setup.
