Re: Damn Recession
I may be a little off line here but I hate that fake wood dash crap...makes the interior look very cheap. Am I alone on this?
|
Re: Damn Recession
I think they are actually real wood. But I think they are tacky as well. It really looks out of place, it does not "upscale" the car.

Re: Damn Recession
Never have been and wont be a fan of fake wood stick on junk...my apologies if you've made the mistake of installing that crap. If you have it you would be wise to remove it and save yourself the embarrassment of wishing you bought a Jaguar/Rolls Royce instead.

Re: Damn Recession
Hell, it even looks crappy in Jags... A friend of mine has an XK8 and it still doesn't look good at all to me. Wood just doesn't look good in cars!

:iamwithst
(we need an "I Agree" icon that doesn't insult people, no offense intended) Wood dashes look appropriate on old Cadillacs and MBZ 4 door Saloons, but they don't belong on a sports car. :dontknow: TomC "Crabs" |

Re: Damn Recession
its got 90K miles plus on it and I bet its had the pi$$ run out of it. I am also betting its not in that great of shape overall when you see it in person.
Theres a reason its 12,500.00 and its not because its a gem. |
Re: Damn Recession
Funny... I was bored and reading past posts and came across this thread. I am the one who purchased this car. LOL
The car is actually in very good condition. The owner (original) had no love affair with the car, had it stored for the past 5 years and just wanted to dump it. That was the reason for the low price. BTW... the first thing I did was to rip the fake wood crap off. Got all the glue off except some of the residue on the leather door panels (I will eventually replace them), but overall it looks much better. |
Re: Damn Recession
Good for you! Glad you landed a good one!
As for glue residue, I suppose you have tried several things, but I've had great luck with the 3M Adhesive Remover. It won't hurt paint (I tried it), but have not actually tried it on leather. P. |
Re: Damn Recession
I think the wood grain insert/appliqué is out of place in a Corvette...ZR-1 or any other type. The only way I would consider buying one is if the seller knocked off the cost of all replacement parts...console, dash, door panels, etc. The same goes for the other coverings made available...carbon fiber, aluminum, chrome, etc. It's just cheap looking, there is no other way to describe it.
(If there are any ZR-1/Corvette owners on this forum reading this, that have wood grain/carbon fiber/aluminum, chrome,..., etc. inserts, and you feel complelled to get rid of your car because of my comments...and if you will sell it at any cost/loss...look me up) :sign10: |

Re: Damn Recession
Goo Gone is a citrus-based adhesive remover, might be worth a try too.
