Got my answer.
Throwout bearing is broke again. And slave cylinder pin snapped in half. Deja vu all over again. Well, instead of a "plenum pulling party"! I guess I'll have a transmission pulling clutch replacment party. WooHoo!:dancing:dancing. Ryan? Lee? Robert? Or is that crickets chirping in the background I hear?
P.S this time a fadanza flywheel is going in. And a better clutch. |
Re: Got my answer.
Take a look at the LT-1 camaro clutch with a sprung hub for the Fidanza.
Can be found for $69. |

I would definitely without a doubt be pissed if I had to pull the transmission again !!!!:mad::mad: I thought I had it bad enough when mine only needed a dab of grease on the throwout bearing. I know one thing for sure, I probably would have caught it after reading the "BIG RED BIBLE" manuals clutch section, but I owe the guys here at the registry for the warning about the plug in the crankshaft! :worship: Now that would have been catastrophic! :censored: I assume you replaced it also with the newer splined one with a little extra moly grease, right? |
Re: Got my answer.
Tell me your kidding. So yesterday, were you telling me this is what I have to look forward to when I start getting more than a few miles on the Z? If so, I'm heading for the roof...
Hang in there and remember, This too shall pass. This too shall pass. This too shall pass. This too shall pass. |
Re: Got my answer.
My god man are your bracket racing that car everyday? I just cant understand how are you having all these issues?
|
Re: Got my answer.
When are you going to do it? I am off this week. Maybe I can bring mine over and you can see what my shifter is doing.

Re: Got my answer.
Rick, this stuff should not break, it should not bind when properly installed, unless it was just a case of "cheap chinese junk"
R&R the trans should only take you 3 hours, pressure plate not much more. |

Good luck to you bro, Maybe Jeffvette can recommend some quality replacement parts. I would not trust anymore dubious parts. |
Re: Got my answer.
Thanks Golden one. I'll fix her just like I always have and she'll be back in the saddle again soon. But I am not going to take any more chances with after market stuff. I'll buy the GM master and clutch slave from Jeffvette this time. You know the thing that sucks is my mother is flying out from California in two weeks. And she wanted to take it for a drive. Back in 1987 she bought a brand new red corvette which made her the coolest mom in the neighbor hood. And I told her that this one is a little different than the one she had. But I think I might already have a buyer for the mustang. We'll see.

Re: Got my answer.
Man...i cant believe it has already been a year since I helped you put the trans back in last time. I'll come over again but, I am in Houston alot less these days since I have to commute up the NJ for work now. The good news is I am going to be based in Houston again, they just havn't said when. Maybe in April.

Re: Got my answer.
It is too bad Ellington Field is such a dump...most military installations hav a car shop where you can go and rent a lift by the hour. I used that in GA a few times...made things easy. I guess we could tow it to San Antonio and use the lifts at Randolf AFB...hehe...not really. Thats to far. Here's to a new lift one day.

Don't worry, I'll bring everything we need to get it up high enough. Let me know how high your jack stands extend "safely" without being too wobbly that is. I would also buy an extra ground strap (engine to chassis) to put on the RH side of the bell housing just for grins and any exhaust wrapping you might want to add. Do you have an air compressor? |

Well now is the time to think about getting even a good small portable 30 gallon one. A good small 1/4" ratchet will become one of your most prized & greatest tools ever bought, even for large bolts once they have been broken loose. Now a 3/4" impact, can also be one of the most problem making tools ever. :censored: IF you have the room & funds, a dual stage 80 gallon one is mandatory, but even a small compressor is the heart of any mechanics motivation. :dancing I am sure you probably already figured that out already. |
Re: Got my answer.
rick, is your clutch arm bad ? also ck the ball it pivots on .if you have any doubt replace them .i believe i have both off the burn victum . let me know if you need them . also you may want to call bill boudreau for any helpfull hints on putting it back in . he did mine in farrah so fast it wasnt funny 2hrs start to finish ,and he didnt have a rack either ,just kack stands

I didn't realize that I could just replace the throw out bearing part of the clutch. The clutch is practically brand new. |
