NoVA/MD/DC/WV, one last 1/4 mile run of the season?
Tracks are getting ready to close. Anyone want to hit a test n tune before they do? I'd like to hop over to Mason Dixon Dragway in Hagerstown maybe the weekend after next. Anyone down? Or a diff. venue?
http://masondixondragway.com/November-2008.htm UPDATE: 11/15 Mason Dixon Dragyway is the date and place! Test and tune gates open at 10am, start running at 11. If anyone wants to meet up in northern Northern VA and run up there, let me know. I'm in Leesburg. If you are planning on shooting up US-15, you'll go right by me. Or I could run out west a bit to I-81. UPDATE AGAIN: Rain is forecast for Saturday, and Mason Dixon isn't open for TnT on Sunday, so how about Sunday 11/16 at Capitol Raceway? See the end of the thread. |
Re: NoVA/MD/DC/WV, one last 1/4 mile run of the season?
If I can find time to get my car squared away, I'm game.

Re: NoVA/MD/DC/WV, one last 1/4 mile run of the season?
Great idea! We will be at a craft show that day but I will try to get my son to do the packup so that I can attend.

Re: NoVA/MD/DC/WV, one last 1/4 mile run of the season?
We could do it on the 15th or 16th if you want Jim. There's nothing special about the 8th, just threw it out there. It woudl give Scott an extra week to get his fenderwell gaps even... ;) :)

Saturday, 15 Nov works better for me. I will definitely be there weather permitting.
LETS RUN!!!! Jim |
Re: NoVA/MD/DC/WV, one last 1/4 mile run of the season?
Ok, let's do that then. Saturday 11/15 at Mason Dixon Dragway. If it's raining that day, we can shoot for Sunday 11/16 as the fall-back. Hopefully it will be cool and dry, perfect for those low ET's.

Finally got the MT DRs and Hoosiers on Pete's old front skinny A-molds so I'll be ready to do battle with you speedy MD boys, weather permitting of course.

As long as nothing rubs, it would be great to drive up to your place and do the final adjustment on a lift. With a lift, I could get under the car easily enough to make the adjustments and immediately test drive it. (It seems the lift would eliminate me having to raise the car, set the jack stand, remove the tire, adjust leaf spring bolt, and then reverse the process - probably 3 or so times!) What are you doing Tuesday besides vote? Thanks. |
Re: NoVA/MD/DC/WV, one last 1/4 mile run of the season?
You can adjust the nut with the car on the ground. Though perhaps that's not good for the nyloc type nut?
|
Re: NoVA/MD/DC/WV, one last 1/4 mile run of the season?
It is possible but difficult. I think is because the extra inch of rim I have is on the inside. Also, I'm using a plain nut until I get the adjustment correct. Then I plan to put on the nyloc nut.

Thanks Jim, I'll be watching for it. Did you include a phone number? I'll give you a call before hand.

Re: NoVA/MD/DC/WV, one last 1/4 mile run of the season?
I just sent an eMail to our list of MD and NoVA ZR-1 owners. I hope some other area ZR-1's will join us for a day at the races, either to race or just to come and hang out.

Re: NoVA/MD/DC/WV, one last 1/4 mile run of the season?
Looks like rain is forecast for next Saturday, which is a good sign that it won't rain then. If they were forecasting a perfect day, I'd be worried!

Re: NoVA/MD/DC/WV, one last 1/4 mile run of the season?
Heard from many Z owners...
Frank said he might come too! With or without the Z, come visit Frank. |
Re: NoVA/MD/DC/WV, one last 1/4 mile run of the season?
Saturday isn't looking too good. I'm thinking we should start making contingency plans. Sunday is supposed to be cold but dry.
If we leave Saturday as a game time decision, my suggestion is we pick a time where anyone interested can log in here and know who, if anyone, is heading to the track. If we pass on Saturday, how about a time for Sunday? |
Re: NoVA/MD/DC/WV, one last 1/4 mile run of the season?
It doesn't look like Sunday is open for test and tune, though. And yeah, looks like the forecast is rain all day Saturday. So there's not much point in going up there.
Capitol Raceway has a test and tune on Sunday 11/16. It looks like from the top of their schedule that Sunday TnT's are 12pm-5pm: http://www.capitolraceway.com/capito...s_schedule.htm Do we want to try a change of date and venue? |
Re: NoVA/MD/DC/WV, one last 1/4 mile run of the season?
Rain isn't good for tracking....
I'm open for another weekend. What dates? |
Re: NoVA/MD/DC/WV, one last 1/4 mile run of the season?
There is no other weekend for Mason Dixon, this is their last weekend of the season.
Capitol has Test and Tune this Sunday 11/16 or next Sunday 11/23, then that's it for them for the season. Sunday is not calling for rain. |
Re: NoVA/MD/DC/WV, one last 1/4 mile run of the season?
I agree that the weather looks bad for racing so I will not be going to Mason Dixon Dragway on Saturday. Bummer!!!
I will see if I can change some plans so that I can go to Capitol Raceway on Sunday. I will let you know soon. Jim |
Re: NoVA/MD/DC/WV, one last 1/4 mile run of the season?
I'm game for Sunday
|
Re: NoVA/MD/DC/WV, one last 1/4 mile run of the season?
Looks like the weather tomorrow should be good for high trap speeds! Hopefully all the rain from today will have a chance to dry off. The temps aren't supposed to be much above 40F though, which won't help dry things out...

Re: NoVA/MD/DC/WV, one last 1/4 mile run of the season?
It sounds as if there could be a chance to run. Unfortunately, I have a commitment I need to keep so I will not be at the track.

Re: NoVA/MD/DC/WV, one last 1/4 mile run of the season?
Unfortunately I won't be able to make it either... I'll be working instead. :-x

Re: NoVA/MD/DC/WV, one last 1/4 mile run of the season?
Well I'm off to Capitol Raceway.
Have to turn those new drag tires in anger a least once before old man winter runs us off the street. Hope to see some of you guys there. |
Re: NoVA/MD/DC/WV, one last 1/4 mile run of the season?
Good luck. Smoke 'em if you've got 'em!
I wish I was there. Let us know how you do. Jim |
Re: NoVA/MD/DC/WV, one last 1/4 mile run of the season?
Bad luck at the track today.
Twisted off the right rear spindle at the splines on the very first launch. I was the first guy out after they preped the starting area. Did a short burn out, staged and came out at around 3500 rpm. It launched like a rocket then popped the spindle within the first 30 ft. or so. As luck would have it I was the only Z that showed up at the track today. So I called Dave J. on the cell and he got a hold of Jeff G. They both dropped what they were doing and drove all the way out to the track with Jeff's Chevy duallie and trailer to get me and the car back home 50 miles to Virginia. I can't thank these two fine gentlemen enough for what they did for me today. Anybody know where I can find a tougher set of rear spindles? |
Re: NoVA/MD/DC/WV, one last 1/4 mile run of the season?
Sorry to hear about the broken spindle. It sounds like you have built a ZR-1 with plenty of torque and plenty of grip. Both are good things. I am sure you will get it back in action soon.

Re: NoVA/MD/DC/WV, one last 1/4 mile run of the season?
Hey, I was thinking about this. So if you blew up at 30', you didn't even get a 60' time to see how the drag tires worked out? That sucks, at least you would have had some cool number to associate with blowing the spindle. :(
