gauging interest: modified exhaust
After a 70 mile trip to a dragstrip this weekend, in 95+ degree heat with the windows up and A/C on, I think maybe I've decided to go Corsa for exhaust. I just am sick of the resonance at highway speeds with the windows up. Around town or with the windows down I love how the car sounds. 90% of the time I totally love it, 10% I hate it. I guess I'd rather 100% of the time just like it (I don't love the Corsa sound nor look).
Anyway, it's stock 2.75" pipes. The resonator is the LT4 one. And the mufflers are Dynomax Ultraflow SS 3" mufflers with stock square tips. The pipes have been modified for headers/cats, but I have the cut-off flanges so an exhaust person could set them up for use with stock manifolds again. With stock manifolds, the resonance is not as bad. It is worse than stock but better than a B&B. My car gained 25whp on a Superflow dyno with the exhaust modification. It would be local pickup as I think cutting it up would make it probably not worth the effort for anyone. |
Re: gauging interest: modified exhaust
Hey, Sorry you are unhappy with your exhaust, but it was great to see you at the races.

Re: gauging interest: modified exhaust
It's only when driving on the highway. In the 65-75mph range the drone is severe, and with the windows up that's all you hear. The rest of the time I love it.

Bob,
Your more than welcome to take my 94 Z for a spin to see how the Corsa exhaust sounds with headers. |

Re: gauging interest: modified exhaust
Bob,
Let me suggest you try the Magnaflow system. Its VERY good. I have it sitting behind Watson headers and no cats. Ccmano can vouch for it since he got a chance to drive it. At $650, its a steal, IMO. :-D |
Re: gauging interest: modified exhaust
I saw some pictures a guy had on his LT4. The system seemed sort of cartoonishly oversized. The pipes and cans seemed to hang fairly low, and the tips were huge, 4" at least.
Do you have pictures of them on your car? How is the resonance? |
Re: gauging interest: modified exhaust
Bob,
Several other Registry members have seen and heard it on my car. Resonance is virtually nil. Its a low mellow note that is consistent throughout the rpm range and doesn't get too loud even at WOT. http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...e/PICT0064.jpg http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...e/PICT0065.jpg http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...e/PICT0063.jpg The pics are from when I had a coolant leak now corrected. I'm pretty pleased. It doesn't tuck up like my old B+B, but I think it looks pretty muscular and the SS is bright. |
Re: gauging interest: modified exhaust
Bob, you know I have headers and Corsa's on my Z now. I also hope you know that you are welcome to take it for a spin anytime.

Re: gauging interest: modified exhaust
Thanks for the car-driving offers guys. :) But I've heard them on several Z's, been for a ride in Jim's car (no headers though I don't believe?), and of course I have a Corsa system on the Aurora.
I have no doubt they will cure the cruise annoyance. I just think at WOT they sound a bit rough on the Z's, like straight pipes a bit. And I prefer less bling, so the stainless tips don't do it for me. I like the rough flat black of stock. :) But if it's between annoying highway trips or not my fave look or sound, I'd probably go with not my fave look or sound. I am in no rush, but I'll probably be picking up a set. |
Re: gauging interest: modified exhaust
Dominic, thanks for the pictures. It's great to know there's another system out there with low resonance. But I just can't get past that look. To me they look out of place, they don't tuck up at all and the tips are way oversized for the opening. Maybe I need to see it in person, but in pictures it doesn't do it for me.
This is the one I first saw it on. Maybe it's the camera angle/distance but it looks sort of cartoonish: http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...IMG_0692-1.jpg The tires on that car and the exhaust both look way too big for it. |
