NCRS Flight Judging in TN
Preparing for a SE Chapter Meet, next weekend, in Pigeon Forge. I'm very involved with NCRS, having joined in 1988. That was two years before I purchased my brand new 1990 ZR-1. Currently, I'm the director of the NCRS Advanced Judging Seminars which are held at all Regionals as well as the National Convention.
1990 #2456 will be getting judged for the first time. Having sat in the basement all winter, it's time for the car to get out and get in the sunshine. With that being said, I've always considered sun's rays on the solar windshield to be like garlic to a vampire so, I try to keep it protected. I'll post some pics and commentary along the way... https://i.postimg.cc/L6zFRDQQ/IMG-8284.jpg |

This vehicle has extremely low miles but does get started each month (at least, that's the goal) and ran for 45 minutes. All the ancillary systems are exercised and a log is kept...

A lift comes in handy when you're 68 years old😁
Just some last minute cleaning...mostly cobwebs removal... https://i.postimg.cc/zB063PY8/IMG-9094.jpg |
Re: NCRS Flight Judging in TN
Mark, I love seeing your cars, thanks for sharing with us. #2456 is truly special. I enjoyed seeing it when I visited the museum in August. I was thrilled to tell my family the story of how you found it, and I showed them the barn find pictures while we ate at the Stingray Grille.
Your yellow windshield cover reminds me of my windshield :-D Probably about the same effect! (And interestingly enough, I don't think mine sat outside much before I got it). Mike |

Mark,
Outstanding ZR-1!!! Your periodic tests exercise more things in a day than mine has had exercised in years, as I would expect from a life long pilot and enthusiast! Enjoy your toys!!! Marty |

Re: NCRS Flight Judging in TN
The only think I see to add to your list is run the climate control to 60 then to 90 then back to 75 and leave there. 75 is the correct position to store the cars as the rubber air box door boot is in the middle of the swing and the rubber seal isn't touching the airbox in either the hot or cold side so there is no chance it can get stuck there from sitting....yes, that is a real thing straight from Gordon Killebrew to my ears.

Re: NCRS Flight Judging in TN
Arrived at the Le Conte Center in Pigeon Forge on Thursday afternoon. Left the car in the trailer until Friday AM. After ditching the car and trailer, I proceeded to do what I do best...

Re: NCRS Flight Judging in TN
Operations judging began @ 1100 on Friday and #2456 went through clean with zero failures. I did, however, make an executive decision not to operate the washers/wipers which resulted in a 40 point loss.
After ops, all 7 flight cars were placed inside... https://i.postimg.cc/4dzjzv6w/IMG-9143.jpg |
Re: NCRS Flight Judging in TN
At the end of the day on Friday, yours truly was asked to conduct a 1 point judging school. We all had a pretty good time...

Re: NCRS Flight Judging in TN
At the end of the day, I lost 27 total points for Int, Ext, Chassis and Mech I. The majority of those points were lost to poor cleaning...and the judges were correct.
After cleaning on the car for so many hours, I lost interest. Good news is, I'll get more into cleaning before the Regional. https://i.postimg.cc/X7qqgxJs/IMG-1227.jpg |

Re: NCRS Flight Judging in TN
Congratulations! Once again, a great showing for #2456! I hear you on the cleaning... it gets exhausting. You've come a LONG way on that one! I'm sure you have a long list of "what's next."
Thanks for sharing the experience with us! Mike |
