WAZOO WMD Westminster, MD September 18th, 2022

We will be doing another WAZOO Maintenance Day on Sunday, September 18th, 2022. Everyone is invited to join us.

We will be in the garage on the alley behind 195 W Main St, Westminster MD 21157.

We will be working on the fuel level sensor in one ZR-1 and the fuel tank fuel vapor canister on another car.

The lift will be available if you want to do an oil change. Bring your own oil & filter.

Call me (443-244-1347) if you have any questions.

Charlie, you still having issues with your fuel gauge?

I also read that post on steering failure, Im glad your getting that fixed, that was a scary story that gentleman posted.

Take Care!

Hi Anthony, the fuel gauge fix at Carlisle worked, all appears to be back to normal. Looking forward to having the rebuilt steering rack installed and getting the car back to handling like a Vette should!

I will be there, looking forward to it! I am bringing the stuff to attempt to replace my turn signal switch. I was informed by Mark Mirrock that the Rock Auto replacement (and all other currently available ones) might not work. He said that people have been buying entire steering columns just to get the turn signal switch. Also, I would love some help diagnosing the strong fuel odor I get from the back of the car while driving.
If Charlie is bringing donuts, I will bring coffee. Any other requests?
Ross

It was a good time and I was happy to meet the group! I appreciate the help with the sending unit.

Unfortunately it still doesn't read fuel level correctly. I will probably move forward with a single pump conversion, which has raised other questions for me that I will post in the general section shortly.

I look forward to being able to join in on the next day so long as my schedule allows for it.

Hi Zach, I saw the single pump conversion in Bowling Green. Matt from Germany had purchased one and it is a work of art! Great meeting you and sure will see you again on the next WMD.

I just got home from my trip last night and the single pump unit was waiting for me when I got here, along with the new fuel boot. It is quite pretty, especially compared to my current.. thing with its bubbling paint.

Part of the instructions call for pulling a pin from the ECU connector. I was thinking it might be prudent to get a little extension cable and pull the pin from that. At least then I am not modifying the original cable. Maybe I am overthinking it.

Also monkeying with the idea of getting a little sandblaster and cleaning off the paint/corrosion from my current unit. Since they are hard to come by I would like to see if I could repair it and have it on standby.

I would be wary of pulling connectors from the ECM wiring harnesses. I suggest that you use the wiring diagram, and determine which wire in the 4-pin connector at the fuel pump you can disconnect. On-line you can find pin removal tools for the "Weather-Pack" connectors.

Re: WAZOO WMD Westminster, MD September 18th, 2022

My understanding is you cannot disconnect any of the 4 pins because the new single pump needs everything for power. The purpose of pulling the pin from the ECM connector is to prevent it from sending a shutoff signal intended for the second pump.

Haibeck's site notes that removing that pin doesn't impede the dual pump setup either. It just means the secondary pump runs full time since the ECM can no longer tell it to stop running.

I am not keen on modifying the original connector, so I am trying to find a male and female end to create my own custom extension cord that I can modify worry free, but my initial search hasn't been fruitful.
