Went in a 10 & came out a 6

VIP showing of the C8 yesterday afternoon. I've been a vocal fan of the car, so was looking forward to taking my enthusiasm up a notch. I was personally let down.
I'm 6'2" and 190 lbs, but could not get comfortable in the drivers seat. Leg room lacking and side bolsters, though wide open, were suited only for track, not street or touring. Should be able to accommodate both.. they were too tight for me. The passenger environment was ridiculously tight unless you put your elbow into the drivers space on the center console. My biggest disappointment was the wiring finish work in the engine compartment. Tape wrapped harnesses everywhere and loose, not organized neatly. I realize our LT-5 has a rat's nest under the plenum, but it's under the plenum, not hanging out everywhere. Caused me to walk out and sit in a 2019 GrandSport with 7 speed manual! Not sure if I'll buy the C7, but I'm going back tomorrow to see if I get a warm fuzzy and trade in my 2012 45th anniversary Camaro.. Left flat and a bit disappointed with the C8. ..Attachment 10846Attachment 10847Attachment 10848 Sent from my SM-G950U using ZR-1 Net Registry mobile app |

I'm with you Steve. They just don't blow up my skirt!
Being in the auto industry for years I have some pretty good connections. Was visiting with one of my GM dealer friends a few weeks ago. He offered me a C8 pretty much at his cost. I told him I really just didn't care that much for them. (Wouldn't be right to take it and then resale.) This impression may change, but for now I'm good with the engine in the front of my Corvettes. If I want it behind me I'll get another DeTomaso or something. Just my 2 cents worth. Probably not worth that!! |
Re: Went in a 10 & came out a 6
While I absolutely love the car I do feel GM dropped the ball visually when it comes to the engine compartment. The CF covers are an option, these cover some of the stuff back there. If this option isn’t chosen not sure what there is to cover some of the clutter. Just how difficult would it have been for GM to at least clean up some what back there? It can’t be about price and bean counters,I’ve got a Honda with a plastic interior that’s looks great,no excuse for cheapin out GM. Zuess Bronze, black interior,NO GOOFY SPOILER please.

Re: Went in a 10 & came out a 6
I could survive the taped wires.
However, every time I get into a C-7 and close the door, the door hits my left hip pushing me over so that my right hip slams into the aircraft carrier sized console. Teensie little steering wheel reminds me of a wooden toy car with the tiny wheel. While I love the look of the C-7, it is not a "good-fit" Beginning to sound like the C-8 might be even worse fitment wise. Rats! Marty |

Mine was a yellow'71. Had it in the late 80's. Like a lot of cars I have had, it was something to enjoy and then move on to something else. If we had only known!! But, at least, I still have the memories. |

If you get a chance, get in one to make a decision. I was and am very excited about a mid engine Corvette. I'm just disappointed with the "visual" quality and my inability to fit comfortably behind the wheel.. Yes, the C7 is tight too. I almost bought a 2019 GrandSport with 7 spd manual yesterday, but decided not to.. Steve Sent from my SM-G950U using ZR-1 Net Registry mobile app |

It’s not like there’s tons of room in our ZR-1s?

I felt a lot more comfortable in the C8 than the C7's I've been in and driven. I'm 6'3" 270ish. I feel like magilla gorilla in the C7, and the steering wheel is so small. The C6 had the most room of them all!

Re: Went in a 10 & came out a 6
I'm still on the fence. I saw & sat in the C8 at Huffines in Dallas (Plano), and it didn't really change my feeling one way or the other. I've been very excited about the C8 except for one major issue: the lack of a stick & clutch manual. I get that the DCT is progress, and maybe once I drive one I'll change my mind, but I love driving a manual (both my 91 ZR-1 and my 15 Z51 daily driver). Having said that, if they do come out with a DOHC engine that revs to 8K+, then I'm pretty certain I'll live with the DCT. :D
As for fit, I'm not a huge guy (5'10") and I'm used to Competition seats in my C7, so to me the C8 3LT with Comp seats they had felt like what I'm already used to. Personally, I wouldn't buy Comp seats again on another C7 unless it was going to be a track car, and the same is true of the C8. My bet is the base and mid-level seats will be better for most people, and especially for any kind of regular use. The cabin is a little "tighter" feeling than the C7, and definitely more driver focused. I will say that the secret to the passenger is going to be having the seat all the way back. If you do this, then your elbow will rest just fine on the console. If the seat is moved forward much at all, then your elbow is going to rest on the button stack. This will probably create an issue for passengers like my wife who is barely 5'0" and likes the seat raised up and run forward, but ultimately it's not an issue I'm going to worry about. Overall, I like what they're doing, but the base C8 with LT2 OHV engine and DCT is not enough to get me to jump. If they don't do DOHC and stick with forced induction LT based OHV engine, I'll either keep my C7 7-spd as a daily or I'll do something crazy like buy a gated manual Ferrari 360 and then get an electric daily like Ford's new Mustang Mach E. |
