Quality Power Alternator Group Buy

I spoke with the Guys at Quality Power Auto yesterday.

We can get a group buy, but the minimum is 5 to get special pricing.

normal pricing is:
$485 for
8112-ND-200A
rear post
6S 2.3" pulley
W3030D harness

AT a qty of 5 the pricing will be ~$450

I will contact them again in a week or so, after seeing how many respond here to this thread

200A at what RPM?

Re: Quality Power Alternator Group Buy

Website lists 200A as max.. 140a @ idle, I have no info beyond that at the moment

Sorry Jeff, I’m going to pass for now. Too many other expenses and projects right now. Thanks for hooking this up though.

Guess it is just me wanting to order one..

I've heard it helps the A/C work better. Any other substantial benefits? I would need some convincing to pay $450, unless I knew mine was a problem (or had a crystal ball to know I was going to need one some day). Thanks.

yeah, I am having a tough time with the cost too, however they seem to be the best price for an updated design alternator..

the Powermaster which is an OEM design, but higher current is about $200 less..

How is this model better than the OEM design?

Re: Quality Power Alternator Group Buy

It is a hairpin alternator vs the traditional style we have in our cars. From reading it sounds like it works better @ idle

Have a photo of the new alternator? Or does it look like the std alternator?

well, better Idle current/ voltage.. so Marc H suggest a new wire in parallel from the Alt to the Junction block.. then a new wire from the junction block to the blower controller..

by him doing this (he used a Powermaster 200A CS-144) the Max fan went from 11v input to 13v, which increased fan speed (which our cars suffer)

Jeff,

What about one of these? Would they work?

A little less expensive.

Looking at stator winding, does not appear to be hairpin winding.

I confirm Marc's claim. I replicated what Marc had done to Dredgeguy's (Charlie) car. Definitely increase HVAC fan speed. My Z blows more air at setting 10 than Mercedes SL at max fan setting.

Unfortunately it is not as easy as a fix on a C60 car. I have a solution I need to test though

Is this plug and play do you need to upgrade the wiring. I am liking the form factor. Warranty?

Whoops sorry -=JEFF=- I see you answered the wiring question

Additional wiringI think, you got the answer. As for the warranty, I never bothered to check. Silly me.
Primary reason I did this work was in preparation of Spal fans. Marc’s opinion is that 120 amp alternator may be overly stressed in hot summer day idling in stop and go traffic with a pai of Spal fans running.
I have Spal fans on its way and soon will be tackling that project.
