New ZR1 owner
I’m new to the forum and just wanted to say hello. I have had a yellow LT4 for 17 years and had always wanted a ZR1. I recently found and bought a 95 yellow ZR1. I look forward to talking to you guys and learning more about the ZR1’s

Welcome Charlie!!! Did you keep your LT-4 car? Having both an LT-4 and LT-5 would be a nice combination! Guessing here, but is your 95 #445? Pretty cool if so! Again, Welcome! Marty |

Yes this was one of the last 3 sold to the public. They were all identical yellow with black interior and one top (yellow). I’m not sure where the other 2 are

Re: New ZR1 owner
Speaking as owner of Competition Yellow '95 ZR-1 #400, I say welcome to the group! You know this thread is worthless without pics though, right?:)
The last three salable ZR-1's were sold to Bruce Holecek, who started Tower hobbies in 1971. He gave Clint Atkins and Wayne Hemmings (both vip's in his business interests) each a car, keeping #447 for himself. I didn't personally know any of these guys, but Bruce contributed stories to The Legend (Larry Merrow's ZR-1 exclusive publication), Corvette Quarterly, and Vette back in the day, and that is where I remember their stories. Bruce himself let go of #447 a few years ago, after his son died, and it has traded hands several times and I don't longer know where it is. So which business partner of Bruce's received your car??? |

Re: New ZR1 owner
LT-4's are fantastic Corvettes!
However, looking at that tail end shot in the garage is proof of how much better that added width looks on the ZR-1. The LT-4 looks good. The LT-5 looks purposeful! Enjoy them! Marty |
Re: New ZR1 owner
Wow, they look awesome!
Quick question - do you have aftermarket exhausts on the LT4's? I have a Grand Sport and as good as the stock exhaust is supposed to be (flow wise), it makes my Grand Sport seem "ho hum" driving it, compared to the cackling and extra noise of the LT5 with stock exhaust. I like the looks of the stock exhaust, but I think the GS needs more character. Thinking a Corsa with black tips (and I would paint the muffler cans black) would solve the problem. |

Thanks! I haven’t had corsa exhaust but I’ve had borla and magnaflow and I couldn’t tell any performance gains. The collector car has magnaflow now. Both exhaust systems have a drone in 6th gear that drives me nuts Sent from my iPhone using ZR-1 Net Registry |

On your yellow LT4, their black tips would look nice! Corsa used to call them "black diamond" tips, but they now call them "PVD" for "physical vapor deposition". Looks like black chrome. Then if you take a good high quality high heat exhaust paint, scuff up the muffler cans and outlets prior to the tips, you can mimic the factory look. Regardless of all the exhaust manufacturers claims, I wouldn't buy the exhaust based on HP gains. At least not that alone...I don't think one would notice much of a difference. For the stock ZR-1's, I personally like the sound of the factory exhaust and with such a sweet car as yours would probably just leave it that way...but that is just me. Enjoy your new car. |
Re: New ZR1 owner
Welcome to keeping the legend alive. You were off to a good start already owning a C4 and understanding their special quirks.
