Could we avoid politics and religion, please?
Friends: there are many places on the web whose reason for being is robust and healthy political debate and discussion. I think the ZR1netregistry best serves its members as a place where we can enjoy our shared love of the ZR-1 and celebrate a remarkable car in a spirit of comity and community.
While there are many thoughtful and reasoned posts, others assign profoundly uncharitable motives to others and proceed from hostility to those who hold contrary positions to their own. With respect to this fine community, none of us is going to change the other's mind when it comes to our political or religious beliefs and I can't see how debating these topics enhances the experience of coming here to enjoy our cars. I'd encourage us to direct our energies on the forums in ways that contribute to our affection for and knowledge of our Corvettes. :handshak: |

It's been said before, don't read the posts you don't like.
XFIRE51 and I have very different political views, but I like to hope we are still friends. We've hung together, conversed together, and dined together. But boy do we think differently about politics. - Steve |

Re: Could we avoid politics and religion, please?
Apperently we can't.
This has been brought up before and It'll come Up again. I have my own feelings on this but my opinion doesn't really matter. |

The football thing seems easy to me. Don't go, don't buy a ticket, don't support them.
Think his unamerican nonsence will stop pretty quick when the stadiums are empty? |
Re: Could we avoid politics and religion, please?
Absolutely, Steve. You hit the nail right on the head. The other thing is if we get all worked up about these things it only encourages more in the same vein don't ya think.

Without this nonsense, who would know who he is? Even I do, and I could give a rats behind about football. |

This is a Corvette forum. I don't agree with Colin Kaepernik or other scumbags that don't appreciate the USA. [emoji631] I also disagree that this is not the Forum to voice those opinions. [emoji108]

Re: Could we avoid politics and religion, please?
I think I just changed my mind on this issue of whether to post political views anywhere on this forum.
Sure, it's labeled "Off Topic" and you should be able to discuss anything under the sun, but maybe there's value in ignoring all the hot button issues that might separate us, and just talk about what brings us together. Like the real kick we get from driving these unique cars. That's why my sig says, "it's about the car, not the people". That's the flip side of the sig. by the late Doug Johnson, who said "It's not about the car, it's about the people". Which to me was about the brotherhood of the ZR-1 owners. But mine is different because I think we need something to agree on in these days when so many forces are trying to pull this country apart. Sent from my iPhone using ZR-1 Net Registry |
Re: Could we avoid politics and religion, please?
I have many friends, and each has their own unique thoughts on most all hot, luke-warm and cold button issues, as do I.
I do not restrict my friends to only those that think like me, which I am sure many might be thankful for. I do not dislike or heaven forbid, hate those that think differently from me. My views have evolved from listening to what friends think, and seeing if it alters my view. Oftentimes it has. Living in an echo chamber would be very boring. The intent of "Off-Topic" is to allow and foster such discussions. They should not be restricted unless they turn into attacks of the members. We are grown-ups here, right? We are not forced to read or join in, but it is good to converse with each other even when we have differing views. I try to avoid evil people, not different ones. I learned that in grade school and it has rarely failed me. Keep it civil, and listen with an open-mind. Life is learning. Marty |
Re: Could we avoid politics and religion, please?
Unfortunately, it appears that there are some members of this forum who feel that any disagreement with their beliefs entitles them to personally attack the person who disagreed.
Perhaps, as some other forums have done, we should seriously consider doing away with the Off Topic area altogether. While that may appear to be somewhat harsh, there have been several recent incidents some starting out very innocently that have morphed into rhetoric and mud-slinging. Just my two cents. |
Re: Could we avoid politics and religion, please?
I come here to talk about my cars and your cars. The rest i can get somewhere else. Lets just talk about what brings us here. If i want to know anything else about you as a person, i will look you up on another forum. Lets not poison our own well.

You might find that others here have similar interests that you can discuss besides a love of Corvettes. So when you read a post in the OT, post a reply now and then, or start your own topic. Seems to be the very reason OT was created in the first place. Like a television, if the program does not appeal to one, you only need to change the channel, not delete it. Marty |

I agree with Marty's statement with the exception of politics and then also religion. I think those two items should be banned as it is very obvious there are some forum members who can't just have a spirited discussion. They get vicious mean and personal.

Like Marty said, I don't mind a good discussion, I might even learn something, or broaden my horizons.
