2017 BG

I have to say a huge thankyou to the registry for a great at Bowling Green event . A big thanks to Mark and Ted and Paul for keeping the event running smoothly .
The new gokarts and touring laps were awesome even tho the weather did not play along as well for the touring laps and so mosty only got a few laps in but anytime to get on the NCM track is an honour becuase you are driving on a history making track , not just a race track.
Semminars and speakers were just that added bonus to the extended weekend .
Looking forward to next year

;)

Guys, this is a super event. If you've never been or haven't been in a while please consider attending the Gathering(s) if you can. There are superb talks and videos, special tours of exhibits with the folks who know the cars best, plenty of opportunities to exercise your car and great fellowship. Thank you to everyone involved, especially you Paul, for the hard work that goes into this unique event.

I wasn't able to make it this year, because my project was not ready, but hopefully I will be able to participate next year. Glad to hear a good time was had.

Well, thanks for the props. But, the real credit goes to Ted Feder and Mark Horner -who did the yoman's "heavy lifting". And, far as the Mountain Run goes, the real credit goes to Gunny and Robert! (Me? I just drive crazy, and love Corvettes, as do the members of this SUPER CLUB (without which we'd all be at a loss, far as "Keeping the Legend Alive" goes..)

Carry on!

Paul.

Ha, you're right, I meant to credit Ted. Ted, you rock. Thanks for the catch, Paul.

Ditto for me, Mike. Goakats are a must, and track time was great despite the intermittent rain. Speakers were awesome. Doug Rippie and Ralph Kramer were excellent choices for stories about the glory years; I heard so much that I had not heard before. Love the spire for the Saturday dinner despite the acoustics. Met a lot of new people, and great to see younger people participating - kudos for members that are able to engage their kids.

Lots of ideas at the meeting for next year - let's keep it moving onward and upwards. BIG THANKS TO MARK AND TED and the entire Board for all you do for us!

I hear that the videos I provided of pirate racing were well received. I'm happy I was able to help make the gathering better even if I couldn't be there.

Re: 2017 BG

Both events were great, thank you all that put them together.
Eating in the spire is real cool, I don't know if they can do anything about the accoustics.
I was starting to feel bad for Mr. Kramer, people couldn't hear and started talking amoungst themselves, like they weren't interested.
Missed a lot of people that couldn't make it this year.
Saw a lot of old friends, and made some new. It's definately the people. - Steve

My first Gathering, but not my last. Go karts and touring lap were great.
Missed some sessions that I wanted to hear. I now have faces to go with some of the names here. Joined the Registry. My son and I had a great time. Thanks to anyone that helped to plan and execute this event. Although I loved eating in the Skydome, I could not here any of the speakers. It's just not good for that.

I kinda figured but I'm super exited about the pictures (can't you tell? lol)

Missed you and the Mrs. last week Mike, did you end up doing your Heel/Toe instructional?

Tripler 05-25-2017 11:50 AM

Re: 2017 BG

We did not have good weather or time for toe/heel but I did do a bit of in car instruction until the weather kicked us off the track . I think the seminar went well . Mark Horner and myself took turns speaking . It was fun but also difficult for me to think High Performance Driving instruction over Racing instructions . 2 completely different things lol but a few rules do cross over for both . We also did not want people practicing toe/heel on the track as it can go all wrong quickly so better for people to practice on there own time ... I found with having put 3000 miles on the Z on our trip that I can toe/heel in any shoe ... It takes practice plain and simple . Its all about foot placement in a ZR-1 or a C4 .

Hey Mike—The racing seminar that you and Mark put on was great. I brought my friend and former business school classmate Mike Stimpert up from Atlanta for a couple days of the gathering and he said that he learned agreat deal about how to drive a car from your talk. He is not a car guy and everyone he talked to said, essentially, that he was a brave lad to have come up to hang out with a bunch of fanatic gear heads. But he enjoyed the people and the gathering, especiallythe plant tour and your talk. Also liked watching the go karts and the (rather damp) track time. Had a couple of great dinners, including the one at the Oasis sitting with Ted Feder and a C4 participant whom I think we talked into getting a ZR-1.

I used the Gathering as a jumping off point for a road trip to visit old friends and business school classmates, and just returned yesterday. Went down to Atlanta to Mike’s for a couple days, then my brother flew in from New York for a couple of days in Seabrook Island SC. Then on to Sunset beach to visit another old business school classmate (hadn’t seen him in 40 years!) and his wife, then on to a friend in Lake Wylie SC with a stop for lunch with a friend from the Stingray forums with a Z06 exactly like mine. Then on through Asheville, NC to visit friends, then home. Total miles: about 2,500. On our way to Atlanta we discovered the George Dickel distillery and after an interesting tour bought some mighty fine Barrel Select Tennessee sipping whiskey, only a small portion of which actually made it home with me. Not photo documented like Jim and Lyndi’s trips but fun nonetheless. I look forward to next year.--Bob

Wow . What an Awesome trip Warp and thankyou . Mark did all the hard work . Good to know some of it sunk in . Like anything it takes practice to get proficient .
Good to hear another ZR-1 may be saved .
Thanks again for the battery disconnect ...

Sorry all!

There are photos, however I'm hoarding the ones I took for the next issue of the HotB!

I started writing about the event here, but again, best left for the HotB. That said, I won't miss the opportunity to thank our awesome sponsors who make the ZR-1 Gathering at the NCM such an incredible event. We are so lucky to have the best in the business behind the ZR-1 Net Registry. They are:

Jerry's Gaskets
Marc Haibeck, the ZR-1 Specialist
Pepmeier Engine Development
Doug Rippie Motorsports

and I can't thank Callaway enough for supporting us with amazing C4s for our event and sending Chris Chesnoe to us.

Regards,
Mark

Re: 2017 BG

So how many registered/attended? Also how many Actual C4 ZR-1s were there? I know it is about the people but considering it is a C4 gathering did everyone bring their C4 or their Newer Corvette?

Just curious

Re: 2017 BG

Jeff,

I don't have the final number, but know we were over 140 whereas we were just over 100 last year. I wasn't keeping track, but there was a good turnout of C4 ZR-1s, along with one of our members in a C7 Z06. The only C4 Grand Sport I noted was the one on display in the NCM - from what I saw, they were all C6 Grand Sports as well as 2 new C7 Grand Sports. I didn't see any C6 ZR1s there, but I'm sure I didn't see every car. I did note that there were a greater number of non-ZR-1 C4s than there was last year, and believe we've generated quite a bit of interest in the ZR-1 among them.

The event is called the C4 Gathering by the NCM, and we call it the ZR-1 Gathering. Likewise, the Grand Sport Registry calls it the Gathering, which is their opportunity for their members to get together at the NCM. Regardless, as you stated, it's really about the people no matter what they drove, and we're always happy that the Gathering family continues to grow each year (and we typically double attendance during our anniversary years).

Regards,
Mark

We will have to see what I have going on with family. Family first. I would love to do the mountain run. Not sure about the Gathering though depends if the schedule is released in Dec or Jan. I cannot commit to something like that getting info only a few weeks prior...

Most of you have no kids or they are grown. Mine are still in Jr High and now HS.. it is quite a bit different

Yes, Kevin. Gatherings are always better when it is a group effort.

Sorry you couldn't make it. It was a "goodun" :dancing
