Texas Holiday gathering

Weather has been fantastic and if possible I'd like to coordinate a get together before the end of the year. Let's see how many are interested and available and then we'll go from there. The Buffalo get together seems to work pretty well for most everyone but I am completely open to suggestions. Let me know if there's any interest.

We talked about my place last time. I'm still offering that if anyone else is good. Buffalo is fine also. If it rains or happens to be cold my garage is large and heated and we can burn here, so I have a large burn pile.

Re: Mid Texas Holiday gathering

I'm ok with that if everyone else is. Hopefully, Joe and Mark could come out from the SA area. Dan's car is getting the great massage at Cory's so I'm not sure if he would come. What do you guys think? What weekend would be good? The only weekend I'm out right now is Dec 3rd.

As an alternate idea we could do Buffalo this time and then do a better job of planning an event at your place in the spring as kind of a pre-BG event. Let's see what everyone's availability is.

I'd be good with Mikes place I should be around most weekends.

Buffalo fine with me and plan a big weekend in March here.

Sounds good. How about Dec 10th?

MickeyD 11-15-2016 11:49 AM

Re: Mid Texas Holiday gathering

I'd be ok with that. If we pick that date and we see its going to be cold we could just move it to my place, large garage with heat and football.

I am all for Buffalo. Conroe is good even though it is not exactly "mid-Texas". :)

Just say when and where. Do we need to sign up for a covered dish?

Hey Leroy, my place is would be just a fall back if we get a 40 deg high and rainy day. We will keep you posted right here.

I'll see if I can't round up some folks from San Antonio for a road trip...

West vs South vs North. Who can bring most?

I'm in... I'll also offer my place up in Cresson Tx as well. I have a large Aircraft Hangar on the house that will house all of us.

Cheers,

Re: Mid Texas Holiday gathering

Well that's 3 options. Buffalo, Conroe or Cresson. I'm good with any. I have to be home by 7. High school senior party at my house at 8. What do u guys think?

Re: Mid Texas Holiday gathering

If memory serves me Cresson also has a race track. Just sayin'…

It sounds like everyone is good with Buffalo on the 10th so let's do it. What we typically do is everyone just brings what they want to eat and drink and then I mooch off of Mike or Steve's wife feels sorry for me and feeds me. I'll try and remember this time not to rely on Dan to bring us chicken. We do need to get there by 10. It gets very difficult holding on to the place when people start showing up. Bring some folding chairs, also.

I'll post a map of where to go in the next couple of days. It's right off the northbound service road in Buffalo.

Dave, should we post up in CF?

Probably wouldn't hurt. You want to do it?

My wife works at the race track as well... Might be able to get some parade laps or maybe even a good deal on the Drive Exotic Experience...

It's only 4 miles south of my house.

Now THAT sounds like a party! We should start working on that event for next year. The Lone Star ZR-1 Round Up!

I can do that!

Re: Mid Texas Holiday gathering

Well unfortunately a good Neighbor passed just a few days ago and the Wake is on Dec 10th.

I'll have to beg out of the get together as I've been asked to fly in the Missing Man formation.

However - I'm willing to setup up a "race" weekend if there is a desire... I've put these on before and Cresson would be perfect for it.

Cheers,
Ron

Ron, sorry to hear about your loss. Cresson sounds good to me.

Re: Mid Texas Holiday gathering

I've never run Cresson - time to add another track to the long list. Maybe Mark and a few others from the San Antonio area would be interested too. All I need is a "when".

Fully Vetted 11-29-2016 11:35 PM

Re: Mid Texas Holiday gathering

Let's try and put something together in the spring. Hopefully, we can do Mike's before BG (maybe in April?) so maybe Cresson in Mar or after BG in June before it gets to hot.

Fully Vetted 11-29-2016 11:38 PM

Re: Mid Texas Holiday gathering

Ron, should we consider renting the track or is it just crazy expensive? We could invite our GS brothers to join in the fun and help with the cost. Or, do we just show up and mix it up with everyone?

You know I'm in! Is there a DB restriction at Cresson? David knows why I'm asking.... We're running the Challenge Car at COTA on the 18th.... but anytime thereafter....

Will check on price. I know the owner but not sure how much he'll budge. Their pretty busy all the time. Might be worth just joining in with the PCA. But will check...

Mark - what's a DB restriction?

decibels = sound level. actually dB to be precise ...

Been out of town. What's status on Dec. 10? Who's all in? I see Dallas boys may beat Houston guys. This is unbelievable! Dave should we throw a post in General Postings? San Antonio guys who's in? Combat doc? Usafpilot?

Fully Vetted 11-30-2016 11:14 PM

Re: Mid Texas Holiday gathering

I think the SA guys are in (Mark and Joe). Dan (Combat Doc) is in. You work on your boys and we'll see what happens. Maps and directions will follow here in a bit.

Re: Mid Texas Holiday gathering

Ok, here are the details:

Time: Saturday Dec 10th at 10:00 (or hopefully earlier). I'll be there by 9:30

Location: Shelley Pate State Park Buffalo, Tx

Maps:

http://www.zr1.net/forum/picture.php...pictureid=3071

http://www.zr1.net/forum/picture.php...pictureid=2683

Houston group take the 79 exit, turn right and then turn left onto the service road. It's right up on the right where the water tower is.

Dallas group take the 164 exit, cross over the hwy and turn right on the 2 way service road. It's down on the left.

Austin group will probably come in on 79.

Bring a cooler with whatever you want to eat and drink. We can decide at some point if we want to go for a drive or whatever. It's more or less just an opportunity to meet new members and hang out with old ones.

There is a new pavilion where we will be that has some tables for food and such. Bring a chair.

I will be there around 9:30 to secure us a spot. Try and be on time if possible. It gets difficult shooting people the later it gets. The bodies start piling up and just makes a mess.

You guys be safe and we'll see you next Saturday!

Re: Mid Texas Holiday gathering

I'm ok with getting there at 930. I have a teen bonfire at my house at 700pm so earlier is better. Steve, Don, Ike? Anyone else in Houston area that wants to go, PM me and I'll get you in the loop.

Ok. I was confusing you with someone that came last year. Greenvine, Tx. Now that's a spot in the road. You're not far from Roundtop, right?

Dave, Leroy was one that broke down on us last year headed to Driftwood. L

Leroy1 12-03-2016 02:00 PM

Re: Mid Texas Holiday gathering

Greenvine is smaller than a spot in the road; more like a microdot. It is located near the big towns of Klump and Latchum. Round Top is about 10 miles south of Greenvine.

Last year I lost all electrical power on the way to Driftwood. The nut on the terminal post to the rear of the battery came loose (the terminal post where several fusible links connect).

Drove the car to Michigan and back last September with no issues. Hopefully it will make a few more miles next weekend.

Hey guys, let's make this a big one. We had six last May. Think we have 6 or 7 as of right now. For the new guys, pot luck is usually the order of the day. We can always go get something if not. Pavilion at park is fairly large in case it rains. Bring your chairs. We usually talk shop, family and biz. Great time to meet other Z guys in the state. Always a great time.

Yes, I remember now. I'm glad you'll be making this trip.

I think this one is going to shatter last year. We COULD have as many as 9-10. Dan is bringing his IROC (not your typical IROC as you might guess with Dan owning it). We could have a couple from the SA area as well. And these are some very special cars.
