Kevin's best was 10.5x sec. at 130.x mph with a 60' around 1.5xx ± Bob's best was 11.03 (right, Bob??) at 129 And Dominic's car ran 12.4 at 118ish w/ Bob G rowing the gears. I'm meeting with Bill (CPCC pres.) on Friday (tentatively) and perhaps get the details then. Pix to follow! |

Re: The CPCC TEAM TROPHY...
An amazing accomplishment considering not only the current state of the competition but also the small number of brethren representing us. I had the good fortune of joining you several years ago and enjoyed a fantastic day of racing. Thanks for keeping the winning tradition going!

Some highlights from last Sunday's FBI event!:dancing
One of Kevin's runs... http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x...pslcbkpmqv.jpg http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x...psdm5gng0f.jpg NOT EVEN CLOSE!! http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x...psuolgwgf9.jpg Amazing machine Kevin has! 441 cid, 4L60E (is that right Kevin?) T-B cont'd |
Re: The CPCC TEAM TROPHY...
This is one of Bob Gilligs runs. He's usually in the 10s, but the car was having an issue in the higher rpm last Sunday...
http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x...psu88ecs9z.jpg The LAUNCH! http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x...psygo57vza.jpg http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x...ps8xgmpomp.jpg http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x...psfp9hyx6m.jpg http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x...psxro8288v.jpg 11.6x sec., but 114.xx mph? Seems outa whack... But, anyway, I wonder if the guy in the left lane is at the 1/8th mile yet!?;) |
Re: The CPCC TEAM TROPHY...
This may have been Bob's "money run"...
http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x...psojljhkyo.jpg http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x...psy8rvrbzp.jpg Lee Gaffgan's winning (?) run... http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x...psyoq9bvmq.jpg Turns in a good run in DA 3000' air (NA w/o nitrous) a 12.578 @ 115.64 mph (the decimals weren't working on the right lane, apparently) http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x...psmndz9ozr.jpg We needed a little "insurance". So Dominic handed Bob Gillig the keys to his "Black Rose", and Bob's expertise wrung out a nice 12.4 @ 118.86 to give the FBI the quickest 3-car aggregate...and the team trophy, once again! IIRC, this makes it SIX out of the 10 years of this event that the ZR-1/FBI team has reigned supreme in Chicagoland! http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x...psekkpiqq2.jpg Once again this year the prize goes to the ZR-1s!! http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x...psstvjla2k.jpg It might have been more, IF we'd known about the shootout in 07; we didn't attend that year. 2008 was our first time out, but we didn't register with the host club - not realizing until afterward that Pete, Dominic and I had the best 3-car agg...dang! That makes two missed opportunities. And, one year, rather than the fastest 3-car agg, the team trophy was awarded according to BRACKET racing results instead... We had the fastest agg, but for naught. That's 3. And, one year Murphy was riding "shotgun" with us and there was a plethora of breakdowns, including a broken spindle and a differential clutch pack went bad on one car, Kevin's car developed a plugged oil intake resulting in a cooked motor, my LT5's coolant punched through a thin spot as result of the porting done the previous winter...it was a BAAAD year!! And, last year the shootout was suspended due to "track conditions". So, we kept the trophy another year - kinda made up for the BRACKET racing fiasco, I guess. But, point is, the ZR-1s have been a force to be reckoned with - in spite of being "antique" technology - to some, anyway! LONG LIVE THE KING!! |

Thanks for posting these great pics, Paul.
And, wow, do those Zs fly! |
Re: The CPCC TEAM TROPHY...
Paul,
No pics of Bob driving my car? He ran a 12.4 @ 118.86 w it. Think it contributed to the win. |
Re: The CPCC TEAM TROPHY...
Thanks Paul, it's inspiring. Is there any video on the way?....pleeeeeze :pray
Another thing, it would be helpful for those of us who don't know any details of how these cars are set up, to give us a quick rundown on mods, (and maybe, dyno readings if they have them). Otherwise, the times and speeds are a lot less meaningful. And....Where was "The Greek"? Thanks, Bob. |
Re: The CPCC TEAM TROPHY...
Thanks Paul, the "editing" looks awesome.

Re: The CPCC TEAM TROPHY...
Congrats to the 3 of you ZR-1 "King" servants! Thanks for representing well!

Re: The CPCC TEAM TROPHY...
Details...
Well, perhaps the owners can provide specifics, so I'll attempt to hit the highlights and corrections... Kevin's car is a 1990 with an AES closed deck motor, Bryant stroker crank, fully ported, sleeved to 441 cid, headers, 3" exhausts, 4L60E xmission with a locking converter, built, tuned, and assembled by Pete, Bob Gillig, and AES. Bob's LT5 also has an AES closed deck conversion and similar porting cams. However, Bob opted for the 427 cid version and the 6-speed ZF/M6 trans. Lee's car is a 350 cid LT5 motor, fully ported, cammed, headers, and is being fitted for nitrous (but did not use the "bottle" that day). Dom's 350 cid LT5 sports Pete's intake and exhaust cams and full porting, headers, 3" exhausts w/ NPP gates. He's running with 19" wheels the srock trans, and 373 (?) rear end, and his own tune. My ZR-1 is fully ported, headers, 3" exhausts, w/ the stock trans and 3.45 rear. My best time at that track was 12.4 @ 121 on a much cooler day. I opted to take photos instead and keep my car in ready reserve, should it be needed in case of a breakdown. Fortunately, nobody broke down this year! As I said, the technical descriptions aren't detailed, leaving that to their respective owners. But, at least you have some of the pertinent information. (I hope some of it is actually accurate!:o) |
