Steering wheel
so I am considering removing the Gen 1 Bag/ wheel from my 1990.. I have a 1990 column and 1987 column at home (spares) I am hoping to morph the 2 together and install in the Z.. (this is a longer term project as I need to get a Steering wheel still)
anyway, I am lean towards this wheel: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-I...62-Ic42/16.jpg if I had 1991 or 1992 Gen 2 Bag I would keep the airbag in the car.. |

Re: Steering wheel
would they frown upon upgrading to a newer version bag?

I dont think they would catch that unless it did not perform as expected. |

Haven't checked safety inspections in most states recently BUT even a deployed airbag wasn't a sufficient reason to fail a vehicle in VA some years ago. I saw that argued and ended up with the inspection done by a VA TROOPER SIR is an unusual thing. Vehicles were built for years for rental companies where SIDE CURTAIN DELETE was offered and these vehicles were resold for years without disclosure. |

No but if you activily defeat what is there is the point. Kinda like there are no avail factory cats for the 90-91 model however there is always an available replacement by Random Tech or Magna Flow. |

I noticed Dom is NOT a fan of the Pillsbury Doughboy C5/C6 Version of the Steering wheel http://www.corvettevalley.com/galler...ing_Wheel_.jpg |
Re: Steering wheel
I will say that at least in the 90-95 (our cars) it might not be illegal to remove. reason I say that is they were not federally mandated until 1996

Re: Steering wheel
Jeff,
Lgaff would be the one to ask about steering wheels and insurance consequences. |

No argument from me Dom its one ugly wheel as were the wagon wheels  About the only thing I like about the C5 was the HUD for that matter |

Re: Steering wheel
-=JEFF=- Just dress up what you have.
Every day I get in the car this wheel brings me a little smile. I would have "D"ed this wheel but that only works well with a small center hub. Re: Steering wheel

I would pay for a C4 HUD that worked better than those dash units that reflect onto a piece of film. I wish we had a SME that could build a working HUD POD for our car. As to Chroming Waggon Wheels. Yikes |

I am still going to build a morphed 87-90 column, whether I use it or not is still up for debate in my head.. but I will end up with a complete set of parts for the 90 at least |
Re: Steering wheel
I had an NOS 86-89 wheel that I wanted to put in my car along with a telescoping column and everybody pretty much told me the some thing,I wasn't too smart for taking out the airbag. One thing to think about,in a 91 the car won't start with the airbag fuse removed so 90 might be the same. Personally I wouldn't hesitate to remove the airbag if that's what I wanted to do.

Re: Steering wheel
Yeah I know how to bypass the no start.. easy enough
As for the Steering wheel swap, I am still working on the column.. |
