Which Nitto tire model?
Nitto seems to make a lot of different models. Has someone researched them and become familiar with their attributes?
I'm interested in a grippy, mountain run/daily driver tire. I plan to run 11" wheels front and back. I don't think I want a drag tire or something that would be scary in the rain. Ideally I'd like something like 315F/345R, but thus far I haven't been able to come up with that combination. Thanks for any suggestions/recommendations. I need to make a decision soon to get them purchased and mounted before the 2015 Mountain Runs and BG C4 Gathering. I'm open to brands other than Nitto (but probably not willing to spend the money for Michelin Pilot tires). TIA! |
Re: Which Nitto tire model?
Bought Nitto NT555`s for the rear. I bought cheap and cheap is what i got. The worn out GSC`s had more stability.

Re: Which Nitto tire model?
NT-05's have treated me well. I got a good deal on them. With some heat they hook up well.
They are okay in the rain. I stress Okay. If you can keep your foot out of it they are fine. If the temps are below 50 dont even bother turn the key to full on. They are a high performance summer tire. |
Re: Which Nitto tire model?
Well, seems to me you've laid out some pretty demanding requirements for any tire! But, far as an "all-round" summer tire goes, the standard 555/555r high performance tires are going to be more than sufficient for the MR3, and probably all of your normal to spirited street/highway driving, short perhaps of all-out competition; at least that has been my experience.
See you on the MR3 in about 3 weeks, if all goes as planned! |
Re: Which Nitto tire model?
I'm running Nitto 555's ... very happy, esp. price/performance ratio. They meet my needs OK.

Re: Which Nitto tire model?
FWIW I used 555R2 front and Drag Radial tires for my cold and/or wet race tires - not scary at all (considering it was on a Mustang LOL).
They won't be a 20k life, although I expect most folks here age tires out before treadlife is a big concern. Best, - Jeff |

like NT-05 here

I've decided to go with the Goodyears, partly because their tread pattern looks so good. Feel free to keep this thread alive if it's interesting to folks. |
Re: Which Nitto tire model?
To me, the NT555's are a good summer tire. For spirited driver, this tire can give you confidence driving on dry roads, though wet traction is not so good. There's a tendency to hydroplane.

Re: Which Nitto tire model?
Unfortunate that Nitto doesn't make the Invo in 17s that fit the ZR. I have them on my Z06 wheels and they are a great tire, IMO. They stick, cool tread pattern, rain performance is good. Had them for over 16k miles, and still have plenty of tread. Have u looked at the Vredesteins?

Re: Which Nitto tire model?
I got the nitto 555 for about 660 with warranty. They were cheap, great tread life compared to NT05 but the sidewall is a little soft. I will be driving a lot so i dont mind them but next set I will be going with a more racier tire. I can feel a little roll (similar to body roll only its the sidewalls of the tires.)
