Looking at a Snap On MT 2500 scanner,got a question.
 

Any pro-cons on one of these scanners?

Used one many times, though outdated by today's standards I always found it to be a very solid scanner and the prices are very good on them now. I would think the only down side is current support if the fail. I got a used OTC Genisys Evo 5.0 a few years back and love it.

My brother has a Mac and Matco brand and both machines are very proficient at diagnostic data, and cover other specific areas such as airbags and hvac.

The only problem is with the Mac and I'm certain would be the same for Snap On and Matco is this.

The Mac only has been updated to 2005 model years and requires special cartridges for some foreigns that are very expensive. To update to current software model 2014 would require an updated processor which exceeds the cost of a brand new machine.

The Matco requires a yearly contract at around $250 per year.

This has me wondering what the best scanner is to buy for our cars. I have a 2003 Jeep that I would like to be able to scan and maybe do some advanced functions like activate the ABS solenoids to properly bleed the brakes.

Bumping an older post, what is all required for the MT2500 to be able to scan for codes?

My service suspension light is on and I would like to find out why. Also I may have an IAC issue that would like to use the scanner to see if I can troubleshoot that.

Would this have all the proper stuff? I don't see an OBD 1 cable.

:happy1:If I may "pile on" here, I too aquired an MT 2500, sans modules, etc to scan our OBD-I 90 and 91 Zs. So, if someone can shed some light on it too...:thumbsup:

This is interesting. Due to my brother`s passing a few months ago, i`ve inherited a Snap On MT 2500. Was bought in 2000. He owned a 91 Vette. I`ve just went a got it out of its case. On the end of the ALDL connector theres a module with the number MT 2500-10. The module has a lead plugged into it and the other end has alligator clips to connect to a 12v power source??? Guess i need to start reading in that 7-8 inch pile of books with it.

Ah! Good to know. Well, mine doesn't have a #10 in the kit. So, I'll be on the hunt for one now, I guess!

I have an older AutoXray 1000 scanner that has paid for itself many times over. However, it is no longer supported, and when I upgraded my computer to this laptop (sheesh...7 years ago is it?) the old 'Xray software will not run on Windows 7. So, I can't download the scanner into the computer to create charts and graphs, and the like. I'm looking to the MT 2500 (such a deal on ebay) to fill that gap.

I'll update when I can find a module and get it running!

Would you be able to take a picture of the module? I want to make sure I get all the correct pieces to pull codes and do the bi directional pieces.

Can`t post a picture but; 2 1/2" x 1 3/4" x 1/2". Black plastic. GM-1 and MT2500-10 engraved on each side. Male/female plugs. Sticker on the side with barcode and the number 2201909. Has a female power plug in opening on it`s side.

GM-1 is the connector to the diagnostic port from what I understand. The MT2500-10 cartridge I have not found on Ebay, yet.

I just bought one of these MT2500 scanners. I hooked it up but the only thing I can see are Engine, Body, and ABS codes for the ZR1. Nothing related to the suspension.

No scanner can 'scan' the suspension codes. Even the tech1 doesn't- what it does is ground the pin for the fx3 diagnostic to flash the light on the dash panel to be read in the pulse count fault code sort of way.

There is a guy in town with a Tech 1a that has hooked it up to my car. It was able to pull the codes and reset the codes. I don't really have an option to look at Suspension stuff. Everything else I do on the MT-2500.

There's nothing to look at except the light that flashes on the dash. you can do that without a scanner- it is just a lot easier to use the scanner than jamming a paperclip into the connector while crawling upside down into the footwell.

They never programmed a sophisticated data stream for the FX3 controller- it is bare bones 80's microprocessor tech. I guess it is nice to be able to erase codes with the scanner, but pulling the plug on the fx3 box or the battery should do the same thing.

In my experience either you have a bad actuator, or the installation is either too tight or too loose on the rubber bushing and the actuator and gear aren't meshing good.

Will this scanner record live data. Like show if detonation sensor was tripped during a run?
