New Camshaft Blanks
All,
I am commissioning a new run of billet camshaft blanks. I have had these in my 427 for more than three years, and the durability is proven. The key is proper heat treat. The more sets we order, the lower the price, such is the cost of initial design and setup. I want one set for myself, and there is one other individual signed up as well. ** Update--prices are now listed** Unfinished Cores: $2400/set Finished Cams, custom lobe profile: $4400/set I would need a deposit to place the order. Lead time would be ~6 weeks. Let me know if you would be interested in a set of blanks, or finished cams. Todd |
Re: New Camshaft Blanks
Interested in blanks, if the lead time is short. PM'd you no answer
|
Re: New Camshaft Blanks
I will let you know on lead time and price. I don't expect it to be fast, though. Probably 6-10 weeks.
I've got one definite "yes", need three to make the price lower. Can be finished to any specification. |
Re: New Camshaft Blanks
I'm interested. How much would it be?
|
Re: New Camshaft Blanks
OK guys. There is some interest out there. It's going to be a few weeks before I have a price, but like I said, 4 custom billet shafts will probably be in the region of $3000. I'll let you know more when I know.
Let me know if you want these finished to your specs, or semi-finished blanks for finishing at your choice later on. If finished, we'll have to discuss your requirements. I don't really want to get into generic profiles. Todd |

Re: New Camshaft Blanks
going, going....
need to place the order this week. Even if you might not have an engine yet, this is the last shot at blanks. There's not another source, as far as I know. |
Re: New Camshaft Blanks
So tempting.
Thanks for offering to the community. |
Re: New Camshaft Blanks
Is it possible to buy a set of inlet cams only?

Re: New Camshaft Blanks
We are testing now new and 1/3 lighter (than stock) lifters. According manufacturer they work ideal with steel cams.

Re: New Camshaft Blanks
I'm not looking for new cams and, even if I wanted some, four grand is a bit out of my budget but...I'm always looking to be better educated.
I was curious about the posts above which discuss using valve lifters from Audi or Ford Cosworth engines. Are these lifters Audi or Cosworth lifters hydraulic or mechanical? Lastly, trying to remember back 25 or more years...I seem to recall that the valve lifter used in an LT5 was originally developed for the "Quad 4". Can anyone confirm? The Quad 4, was GM's first DOHC engine design and was introduced in the 1988 model year and discontinued after 2002. |
Re: New Camshaft Blanks
Yes, Quad 4 and LT5 are same lifter.
I also know about the VW/Audi lifter. I don't know anything about Ford/Cosworth lifter very interesting. What's the cost of these lifters. Pete |
Re: New Camshaft Blanks
The Dollar is strong at the moment. A set of 32 pieces cost 480 U$ (normal price would be 640) plus shipping 45-50 U$. I have them in stock.

The lifters are hydraulic. We do here in Europe our own LT5 researches because the requirements are a bit different than what you guys in the States ask for. We do not need a fantastic quarter mile racer. We need a LT5 which can run for a long time and distance with high rpms on the German autobahn without any issues. For big lobe cams and the valve train it's a challenge to hold and to prevent valve bouncing at high rpms. The Installation of harder valve springs increase the wear unfortunately and the load on all rotating and moving parts. Therefore it's more useful to go the opposite direction and make the valve train resp. the moving mass leighter and support the reduction of lobe and lifter wear. With leighter lifters and with leight titanium valve spring retainers the moving mass is reduced by about 20%. That means less wear and more safety against valve bouncing. The engine run smoother and accelerate better. Together with a cam manufacturer we found out that steel cams in combination with harder valve springs will probably sooner or later eat the stock lifters. No matter how the lobes are hardened. It's recommended to switch on other lifters like those from Ford Cosworth. We are still testing and collecting experiences. Also helpful is the use of engine oil with more cinc additives. Sam |
Re: New Camshaft Blanks
The VW/Audi lifters are made by INA, in either a Brazil or German factory. The Brazil version is said to be the lightest, and that is what I was using in the 427 with billet steel cams. All surfaces looked new when the engine was torn down.

Re: New Camshaft Blanks
Go with the german version due to better production quality.

Re: New Camshaft Blanks
can we move the lifter discussion to a new thread?

Re: New Camshaft Blanks
I have one set of these semi-finished Cores left, if anyone is interested. $2400+shipping.

Re: New Camshaft Blanks
Are the cam blanks still available?
|
Re: New Camshaft Blanks
I've decided to only keep one set of cores for myself. There is one set available for immediate sale. Blanks $2400, or finished cams $4400, plus shipping.

Re: New Camshaft Blanks
ZR-1 friends, I am about to launch another batch of semi-finished camshaft cores. These are proven in several competition-level LT-5's. We can finish them, or you can source your own final grinding vendor.
despite inflation of steel over the last 5 years, I can still offer new semi-finished cores for $2400. I need at least 5 full sets to launch this batch. Thanks, |

2 sets requested so far. Not enough for the group buy, though.

Sent you an email earlier today, mentioning here as I've had a few others not receive my emails recently.

Thanks Andrew. Got you on the list. Need a few more to make it viable.

Re: New Camshaft Blanks
Todd, would you object to my making a post in the Corvette Forum ZR1 section about this in case it attracts a few more people? (I'm keen on procuring a set of cams  )

New Camshaft Blanks
Yes of course please share. The more the merrier. Need 5 sets or it just doesn?t work. The price to mfg cores is dependent on volume. I sold 10 sets last time we did a run. 4 sets have run in a racing environment. I?m not sure what the others have done. As far as I know, billet cores aren?t available elsewhere.
