ZR-1 Windshields

I have a contact that can make a run of ZR-1 "like" Windshields. These will be made overseas and you will have a choice of either the small cutout or a large cutout. These windshields will not delaminate.

These windshields will also have a Blue/Blue tint (sorry no bronze). OEM glass will put the original oem numbers on the windshields as well.

The cost will be around $600 plus shipping.

You can email me at zr1net@zr1.net

What diameter will the "large" cut out be?

ZR-1Mom 06-03-2004 07:55 PM

4" x 10" is Large

It's up in the air right now. The manufacture is now not sure they can make them because of the special coating between the glass.

Waiting to hear back for sure.

I'd be willing to buy several, if more helped. Blue would look FANTASTIC on my Quasar Blue ZR-1!
O:)

I would be in for one

ZR-1Mom 07-01-2005 10:58 PM

For now sorry to say this is a dead issue. The deal fell though. :(

Hello, and welcome to the forum. :handshak:

If you need an OEM you can try contacting this guy who is in NJ, and says he has some original ones still in the box. I think he is asking $1,200.00 per, and says some of them might have delamination. His name is Todd and he is at 1(908) 475-1167, or by email at toddcerami@comcast.net

Thanks, my original was replaced with a early cut out model (which is in perfect condition with no delam) but I would like to put in the correct one one day

Just wanted to say, my '95 still has no sign of delamination. Strange to say the least, I wonder how many others don't have it?

ffvetteman 08-07-2005 04:35 AM

Mine dosent have any delam either.

But it was already replaced with a normal Vette windshield :)

Jim Jones 08-07-2005 07:20 AM

Mine does not have any delamination either and as far as I know it is the original windshield.

carter200 08-10-2005 01:14 PM

None here either and it IS the original one.

cuisinartvette 08-17-2005 09:56 PM

Too bad about the deal! Thanks for trying, though

Carter, isnt' EVERYTHING original and stock on that car of yours?

I sure wish there WAS a solution to the windshield issue. I'm running a non-ZR-1 windshield. The price was right (under $300 installed), but the  factor is just not there. :(

Is there any way to try to put this deal through again now? Maybe things have changed...sure would be nice to have new glass.

Re: ZR-1 Windshields

I have a question. Is the impetus about getting windshields that look correctish for cheap? Or just getting ones that are good (a final replacement) and won't eventually delaminate?

Back when LOF was making ZR-1 windshields, GM was using a similar glass made by PPG in the Lumina APV windshield. It has the same metallic/neat tint look to it, had a cut-out, and served the same purpose as far as blocking heat/UV. However, I don't believe they suffered from delamination problems.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I for one would be more interested in a quality/US made replacement that looked and functioned the same but didn't fail in the $1500-2000 range (same price as LOF ones that will probably fail eventually or have already started failing) than I would be in a cheap chinese made windshield that merely looked similar with tint/cutout.

Just two cents, if even that. Though I've no idea if PPG would do a limited run of ZR-1 windshields. But if they still make Lumina APV replacement ones, I doubt those move in big quanities, maybe they could do it on the same scale?

Re: ZR-1 Windshields

I know Dave has worked on this , and I took time to see if it could be done, but ran into a brick wall. Aside from the cost, it seems that safety issues prevent special runs from aftermarket companies, and LOF has no interest in even listening to our problems.

Re: ZR-1 Windshields

Is anyone going to SEMA next year? Maybe we could get some made by a company there?

stupid question no. 1: what is/are the differences in the model year windshields ? I have a '93 with the normal delam and a repaired stone chip. I'd be interested in your nos if it fit.

hi
the only difference is the radar cutout in the reflective material is couple inches larger on the 90-92 glass. this is something most people wouldn't notice. i can send you pics if interested.if you get someone who is careful removing your old glass without breaking it you could probably get $500 for it.
thanks
