Road & Track: three car test

I would like to post a link to this as I subscribe to corvetteonline and I thought this was an interesting write up. Not because they tested a 458 vs ZR1 vs MP12-4C either.

What I found amusing was that during the dyno testing and track testing the only car that didn't have any factory personal in attendance appears to have been the corvette. I just found that kind of funny. Okay, maybe I have a rather unique sense of humor I guess?

the corvette is probably the only one that didn't need tinkered with during the test....and I'd still rather have the MP4-12c

I too read this review and had the same reaction to the Corvette coming up against these two super cars without any factory babysitter.

I have to be honest. I thought it is very telling that two superior cars, okay price wise at least, needed baby sitters just to have an established race car driver test them around a real race track. I'm sure I could break either of them very easily, being a dunce about driving a supercar. I'm not so sure I could break the ZR1 though. :o

I guess if you have the kind of cash it takes to join that club, it doesn't really matter how much maintenance your rides need, right? :sign10:

we have neither a local mclaren nor ferrari dealer network. to work on the cars you either have to send your ferrari to phliy, columbus, chicago or baltimore. McLaren will send techs to you

Well, I guess there is one good thing about living where I do live....bad roads & congestion not withstanding..... you can have any of these supercars and not have to go too far to get factory help! :-D

I'll still take a corvette please, because that's what I can afford to own! Oh, and with my corvette...I'd like 4 cams and 32 valves thank you very much!:dancing

what they didn't say was the Corvette will kick the ever living **** out those other two cars, even though it is an old design. They still haven't caught up.

Re: Road & Track: three car test

I had the opportunity to abuse a 458 at the Las Vegas motor speed way a few weeks ago. I enjoyed the car, it did sound amazing, but to be honest it didn't feel light years ahead of my modded C6 Z06 in terms of performance and handling. It was an extremely light car, very responsive in the corners, but I did find due to the extremely light front end, I sometimes had to drag the brakes slightly to get it to turn in. I had originally planned to drive the McLaren MP4 as well, but 3 days before I was scheduled to land in Vegas, it got pulled out of the line up and I had to take out an Aston instead.

So without driving the McLaren, I'd have to agree with the rest of you. They're nice cars, but the Corvette whether it is the Z06 or ZR1 is still an amazing machine. The brute force and torque is pretty exhilarating in those "old" GM's... but the 458 is definitely one sexy car.
