Reverse lockout.
I've been thinking about running a batch of reverse lockout knobs and the T-slot wedge. Mines been cracked where the set screw is and when it backs out enough you can kiss reverse goodbye. But I'd make them out of aluminum and black anodize them. Just don't know how big of a demand there is for them. If not I'll just make one for myself.

Any idea of the cost? Thanks for doing this! Gary |
Re: Reverse lockout.
I think that would be a great idea Rick. The closer to stock in appearance, the better. I'm surprise these can even be obtained from the dealer. When you have an idea of the cost, I may be in for a few.

Re: Reverse lockout.
I'd probably be in for one. I was just thinking the other day, I wonder how long until that stupid little set screw strips out the plastic.

Re: Reverse lockout.
Mine was MIA when I bought the car, but I ended up having a 95 shift rod with the crash-thru detent put into my ZF when it got repaired.
probably a lot of people need some kind of replacement- maybe beyond the ZR-1 cars as well. |
Re: Reverse lockout.
Very good. I'll run as many as I can get out of one bar of aluminum. I'll figure out a price once I start running them.

Re: Reverse lockout.
Would that be a 20ft bar of 6061T6? Holy Cow batman! That's a lot!

I am in for three.

Re: Reverse lockout.
I plan to run a quantity of 50. That should be enough for a while. Unless the non ZR-1 manually equipped C4's use them also!

Re: Reverse lockout.
Im in for several, It is a part that you can use, Even if you dont, You can always sell it.
|
Re: Reverse lockout.
Non Zr-1 also use them.. any ZF equipped car from 89- until it changed.. and I forget which year that is
|
Re: Reverse lockout.
I think 94 was the last year for the lockout ring. 95-96 eliminated it.

Re: Reverse lockout.
I've ordered enough material to make 200 reverse lockout knobs and shifter knob T keepers. The knob and T will be sold together. I will try to keep the price as reasonable as possible. This will be a far better stock looking replacement than the original equipment. Made of T6061 aluminum bar stock. Not cast aluminum. The T keeper will be made of 1018 Stainless steel. Also thinking about making a tool that will remove the T keeper without tearing it up like what happens using vise grips or channel lock pliers. Still not sure of the price yet. There are still a few factors I've got to get pricing on first. But the ball is rolling now.

Re: Reverse lockout.
The material arrived yesterday. All 34 1/2 feet of it. T6061 aluminum made by Alcoa! Revers lockouts manufactured by Shadow mfg. LLC USA.:Eagle:

Put me down for two sets.

Re: Reverse lockout.
Been a while I thought I would ask. Any update on this ??? GC

Re: Reverse lockout.
Unfortunately nothing has happened with them. I'm starting to light a fire under the owners azz over it. Because if I don't it will never get done. I'm in the market right now for a good used cnc milling machine. And once I have it I'll have complete control and won't concern the owner anymore. But until then I'm at his mercy.

Re: Reverse lockout.
Jonny5,
Are you trying to wake up a 10 and a half year old thread? If the buzzing really annoys you, you can remove the pull up tab and the spring. 95 C4s including ZR-1s, and 96 C4s did not have pull up lockout collars. However, 95s and 96s had a crash thru feature for the reverse gear on the shifter to avoid finding the reverse accidentally. I have a 94 and when I went to Bill Boudreau shifter, I went with no lockout collar. You just have to be conscious when going into 6th and pull the shifter without pushing it right. If you mess up, ZF6 will remind you with a bit of growl. Nothing drastic. |
Re: Reverse lockout.
My 92 has a Hurst short shifter without a lockout collar. It has the crash thru feature of reverse. First few days I was thinking don't mess up but have not thought about it or had any issues since.
