FX3 shock actuators

Are they the same between the early years and later?
Also, any difference between the front and rear except for the wire length?

Yun,
Yes there is a difference between the early and later cars as far as the actuator. Has something to do with the amount of rotation in it makes.

Shock rotation is different but actuators I don't see any differentiation based on shox.com - same actuators are listedfor 89-95. Shocks they show early and laterv ersions separately.:icon_scra

Re: FX3 shock actuators

Actuators are the same for all years of FX3, My 91 has a 92+controller and shocks in it, but with the original actuators. Front and rear are interchangeable other than wire length issues.

That was my suspicion. Thanks for the confirmation.

Speaking of actuators, I have a complete set if someone needs them.

I need one rear. How much? Is the plastic planetary gear intact?
Would you PM me?

Yun,
Scroll down on this page from Captain Z CNC web site and he shows later style actuator gears for $35 http://captainzcnc.com/id4.html

Re: FX3 shock actuators

Phil,

Those are for gears on top of the shocks. I think one of my rear actuator planetary gear (inside the actuator) is busted and periodically gets hung up tripping the light. I noticed partially broken planetary but it was working befor.

Re: FX3 shock actuators

If they are doing actuator rebuilds seems they would also have replacement planetary gears. Wouldn't hurt to give them a call.

Could be. I thought I would buy a used one and send old one and have it rebuilt and keep as a spare.

from 89-95 they are the same. No difference from front to rear except the wire length as noted. Short for the rear and long for the front. GC

Re: FX3 shock actuators

Is there any need to rebuild these if they are working correctly and the gears are all intact? $125 each is pretty salty if it's not needed.

FYSA…I spoke with the folks at Texas Track Works and unfortunately they informed me that they do not rebuild the FX3 actuators:(

Yeah, DITTOS.

OP, Someone here might have one you can buy for less. OR, check ebay for one/some. I just replaced one of mine a couple weeks ago from =Jeff= (on this board). He had one; may has another?

Here is a resource for repair. I have never used the service however and they do sell the metal retainer clips as well. GC

Re: FX3 shock actuators

I broke one in a pothole and had it rebuilt by captainzcnc. Got CNC'ed gears to top shocks where they attach to actuators. Cast pot metals ones are very fragile. Work perfectly. Installing new gear on top of shock is tricky due to tiny pin that fixes gear in place. Used roll punches for an AR15 lower assembly available from Brownells to start them
