newbie injector question
I have a 90 ZR1 with about 16k miles that I have original injectors still installed. Which injectors do you recommend to keep the ethanol at bay? David you have a post to a site for injectors but you didn't say which set you were recommending. I have a slight miss at 4k throttle and up sometimes and I am sure it is related to injectors.
TIA, Mike  |

Re: newbie injector question
I believe if using the FIC injectors the preference is the "new" not the rebuilt injectors....the price about doubles but I think it's worth the POE to get new ones. JMHO

FIC (new SS ones) They just started making Stainless Steel injectors recently and these are probably the best for long term use. David |
Re: newbie injector question

Re: newbie injector question
Mike,
I recommend using Viton over Buna for ethanol blended fuels, which is virtually all you have in Texas. here's a short list of the items needed to replace the injectors. http://jerrysgaskets.com/store2/root...&products_id=7 http://jerrysgaskets.com/store2/root...roducts_id=384 http://jerrysgaskets.com/store2/root...roducts_id=387 AND.... here is a tech data link for info to replace the lower primary injector seal. You can download this to your computer and/or print it out to refer to while you are working. http://jerrysgaskets.com/store2/root...roducts_id=446 |

Re: newbie injector question
The last time I saw a thread on injectors it seems to me the RC design won out based on them being less prone to fouling (rotory design not pental) and that they were stainless steal (corrosion resistant).
I converted to RCs back in the 90s. (I think). No problems since. Things to note. The early Zs had a different diameter injector for primary and secondary. Secondary injectors tend to leave the O-ring behind when you pull them out. The primaries don't. Be careful to note where the orange rubber seal goes when you pull the injector electrical connector off. It's tinny and rectangular. They can dangle and fall off. Good luck |
Re: newbie injector question
whats the part number for the fic injectors we need? D042H-8 or D052H-8? is it the same for the primary and secondaries or not?

Re: newbie injector question
I'm a newbie myself. I just ordered 16 rebuilt FIC injectors for a customers 1990 zr1. They said nothing about the primary or secondaries being different, and now I'm hoping they're sending me the right ones! I've heard nothing but good things about their customer service and honoring warranties etc etc... fuelinjectorconnection.com
I've seen others have good experience with them, anyone know if this is something to worry about? Thanks |

These are the ones I would use if I were going to buy FIC injectors for my 90. I perhaps would give thought to the rebuilt FIC's if I wanted to save 1/2 the cash. Tom |

Re: newbie injector question
I installed 16 rebuilt FIC injectors on the 90zr1, and everything seems to be good so far.... It only has 10k miles, I threw some Lucas fuel system cleaner in the tank and trying to put some miles on the car. Although, I did get on it a few times up to 6-7k rpm and it seemed to run a bit rough after that in the lower rpm's for 10 min or so before I shut the car off. Then I went to start it up 2hrs later and it cranked for about 5 seconds before it fired and smelled like raw fuel for a few seconds. I've put some miles on it since then, but no problems have persisted. Thoughts?

Just something to keep in the back of your mind, if there is no fuel leaking from the injectors, yet the leak down test is failing, I had a bad check valve in a newly installed fuel pump cause issues. My point being, testing the injectors before installing the plenum has many advantages, and you don't have to pull the plenum off (cuz it was not yet installed) to troubleshoot. Just a thought.;) And, another thing...if that "injector cleaner" loosens something between the fuel filter and the injectors, where is it going to go? Any fuel system (including the fuel rails) cleaning would be best done before the injectors were reinstalled, and by a more positive/aggressive method than a passive fuel additive, IMO. Flushing the lines and replacing the filter(s) before installing the injectors...would be what I would prefer to do (but that's just me). P. |

That's interesting! I know they don't have the seals, but didn't think it would inhale enough oil to run a rough. Worst case, it is a warrantied injector and what's another hour or two... That's food for "thought", I appreciate it! =D> |
