Get ready to puke: Mecum ZR-1

$11500 for a 91 w/70K miles

http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_de...69&entryRow=38

Not a bad car, saw it in person

I looked at the photos and if that is an 11.5k car then you could weigh mine.

Unless the motor is toast, some one got a great deal. Okay, maybe some cash has to be put into her for maintenance items at that mileage....but a metallic turquoise is still a looker & how bad a condition could she be mechanically? I'd take a chance at that price if I wanted to buy a Z.

Beautiful car for that kind of money.

That's an anomaly for sure...or it needed work too. The reds and blacks are safe bets, but I would take any color for a several thousand dollar discount. I don't think you can compare this and say all 50k+ mile LT5 cars will be $12k, but it does sort of show that $15k-ish is a valid range now on a decent car.

I agree. Auctions are just that....auctions. There just has to be two people there that want the car. Doesn't mean that any 91 is only worth what this car brought.

The same happens to 53's all the time, which is my main market. There can be five cars sell with different conditions and people only see the last selling price and think that price dictates the true market.

BJ Orange County, 91 Red ZR-1 61K WITH ACCIDENT HISTORY (rearend), $17K plus 10% buyers commision. Not Bad!

John Boothby 06-25-2011 07:40 PM

Re: Get ready to puke: Mecum ZR-1

By the way, BJ Orange County so far have produced some extremely low sales, in my oppinion! I was surprised that the ZR-1 went for as high as it did based on it's milage and history! JMHO.

Re: Get ready to puke: Mecum ZR-1

I think that color had to do something with the price.. only a handful will like it, but you need two to like it for a bidding war

that almost makes the TT 368 going for 42 or 44 not hurt as much

Ah.."WORTH" and "PRICE"...the conundrum of the ages!

Then again there's the ol' "BARGAIN". A bargain is nothing more than a selling price anomaly - a distortion resulting from the force(s) of extenuating circumstances of the sale at particular time and place.

IMO, it would be a mistake to make too much out of that one particular selling point. I don't like it either - far as it goes. But, one (selling) point does not a trend make! (thank heaven).

my houses aren't worth anything either. lucky I still like em.

that's the way I feel about the LSV ZR-1

I'm not selling it, I'm driving it, and it's worth it's weight in gold to me and they are pretty heavy.

the ZR-1 and all hot cars are a hassle sometime but it's worth it to drive a cool car and all the time.

I sometimes commute in my daughters mazda protege when it rains and I think, "life it too short to drive junk, even in the rain"

my ZR-1 is a "high miler" at almost 80k, and one of the highest mile LPE LSV cars. not many of the stroker guys drive their cars. I say "buy a poster" it's cheaper. I drive em. :proud:

Re: Get ready to puke: Mecum ZR-1

How about the '95 Black / Black that went for $22,500 at the auction? The paint was in great condition, the interior looked great. I do not know what the mileage was, in any case someone got a great deal. It's not what they sold for, but the enjoyment you get out of owning one. As stated, houses aren't worth what they used to be either. Someday, the prices will creep up, I read a story about a low mile Chevette going for 7k and a Pinto going for $7.5k go figure. the worth is in the value of one who is buying and one who is selling.

mike100 06-27-2011 02:11 PM

Re: Get ready to puke: Mecum ZR-1

If this was 6 months ago, I would have been willing to pay $23k for that 95 with 40,000 miles. I think others may have also been willing to bid in a sane range that still represents a fair deal (less than $25k), but it seems to me that not too many buyers for C4 Z's showed up with money to spend and a couple of people got bargains.

That's how it can go in an auction with no reserve...either way too much or way too low.

Seem like I am hooked on this car already thinking of repainting and doing engine over, glass, top wow sounds like a lot of money

Re: Get ready to puke: Mecum ZR-1

define overheated. stock gm fan temp doesn't turn on until 228 degrees or so, but that can be programmed in the chip to come on sooner (along with the settings for more hp). hopefully you don't have a chip and that can be remedied along with the normal cooling system service.

Congratz on the ZR-1. Can't think of a better combo to have in the stable than that combination of Zs!

"Doing engine over"...What did you have in mind?

I think you got a smokin' deal....but then I like the color. Good luck with her and I hope you get a bad case of permagrin.

Jerry,

Congrats on the car again. Marc Haibeck will be great to work with in helping sort out the "new" ride. Glad you made it to the site, these guys have helped me a lot with my car. Now I know next year I will have a partner to attend the Gathering with!

Re: Get ready to puke: Mecum ZR-1

A new DeWitts radiator was installed in my ZR-1 just before I acquired it. I have no high temp issues and it works great here in hot & humid Florida.

I also dream/plan on sending my car to Marc Haibeck one day. It just seems to me like that's the ultimate upgrade for our cars today (for the non-do-it-yourselfer). I've read a few posts about it on here but mostly looked through his website. Would anyone who has had their ZR-1 upgraded through Haibeck share their experience, thoughts, drive comments, etc. about their ZR-1 for us here? I'd love to learn more about it. Thanks!

I don't think so. I think "Shoefly" may have something to do with his previous occupation.
