name that catback
1 Attachment(s)
Can anyone identify this catback? Besides some drone it seems pretty good, but I am running close to the sound limits at some events. Wonder if these mufflers degrade, I haven't changed anything. Are these mufflers heavy?
(haven't had it off - yet) Thanks, - Jeff |

It's Borla, I have it on my Z. You may lose 5-10hp on this exhaust setup, but it has zero or minimal resonance. With a set of Headers, No Cats, modified resonator the system works great. It's quiet but comes to life when you get on it. If you are looking for something loud, go with another exhaust like B&B. |

You modify existing resonator or you buy LT-4 resonator. |
Re: name that catback
I see.. I have the Borla Challenge system.. I have a LT4 resonator and I also have a Magnaflow resonator.. debating on which to try first

The packing can get compressed to where it does not work as well, or get shifted around or blown out of the casing over time. So yes, they can degrade. If you've had them a long time and they seem louder now than they did, it's possible that's what happened. Heavy, I don't know. I don't think the weight range is enough to choose a muffler based on it vs sound quality. |

Re: name that catback
Wow, thanks very much for the responses. Glad to have it ID'ed for real.
Funny thing is with the headers, cats and no resonator it's got a pretty vicious drone. Great sound at WOT gets lots of compliments at the autocross events, from everyone except the sound marshal :(; problem is the tips aren't very friendly for trying to add turndowns or a baffle though so an over-limit ends my day. I haven't noticed any difference in the sound but I have been running with the same club for a couple of years, then two events back-to-back get warned or called on sound. It could easily have been simply the conditions but it occurred to me that if it was a glass-pack type design it could be burning out although other systems I've had did the telltale 20' "tail" of cloth coming out of the pipes LOL. As to weight, well every pound matters and I'm starting at a disadvantage (guess all those cams are pretty heavy LOL). On the other hand, low and at the rear are the perfect place to stash some pork. I found a nice little straight-through muffler that I could add upstream, cheap and light enough, but maybe I'll wait and see if I get called out by the meter again. It's really good to know for sure what I'm starting with though. And maybe if it is degrading, I'll gain a couple of those ponies back... Thanks, - Jeff |

Do you have resonance? |
Re: name that catback
Ran the borlas with straight pipes right up to Watson small tubes No resonators. No drone at all, Might be worth the 5-10 hp...
