Comment on new ZR1
I got a ride in a 2010 ZR1 this past Tuesday. I just want to mention that it was FAST!! Older ZR1 owners will really need to step up on power to compete. The owner was swappig cars from house to shop. First car I rode in was a Ferarri 430 modena. ZR1 is way faster. For a car with warranty its pretty amazing.

Re: Comment on new ZR1
Funny what can happen when you add Boost . If that car wan't S-Charged, don't think there's anything that would stop me from getting one .

Re: Comment on new ZR1
Unlike C4 ZR-1 which had a completely different motor, namely LT5, current generation ZR1 in essence is a supercharged version of LS series.
Recently Callaway supercharged GS has been showing up at local shows driven by Callaway Marketing Manager. This version has a supercharged LS7 (you know the 7 liter in a Z06). Due to virtue of starting with a larger displacement and hp and torque, this particular Callaway GS ended up w/ 800 bhp if I remember correct. I imagine Callaway would be more than happy to sell you various combination of suspension and brake upgrades as well. He claimed all this could be done at lower price that ZR1 sticker. Throw in "Callaway" lable on top of all this, along with presumably lower production number, may be a smarter way to go relative to ZR1. Just my thoughts. |

IIRC, Chevy considered boosting the LS7, but decided against it because the bore size made the cylinder walls too weak to sustain the extra compression. Wonder how Callaway got around that. |

Re: Comment on new ZR1
Woops!
Retraction. Callaway is blown LS3 at around ZR1 level. Supercharged LS7 belongs to one of local guy. I figured I would set the record straight. |

He then parked the car. We walked over to take a look and found the belt laying there on the engine and the tensioner pulley broken clean off. So either it was a defective pulley or Callaway didn't do their homework on how much force that pulley needs to absorb. It looked like just the stock tensioner. So much for a Callaway at the track. H  |
Re: Comment on new ZR1
Hans,
A new ZR1 showed up today also.....could not hook up, almost lost it at mid track....pretty scary! |

Ccmano,
So the GUY was in drag Strip. the end of story! BRYAN, this video for you.. Callaway did 254.7 Mph in 1988 , with our beloved C4 , that new Million $$ super car did not come close to that speed. I and many will be proud to have CALLAWAY sticker on his Corvette, and thank God i have Callaway Aerobody, though i miss my original zr1 body. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8dI-47Z2hI Quote:

Re: Comment on new ZR1
I still Did NOT change my mind.
I do not like the new Zr-1, it is Z06 with S/c. even if it goes fast in 1/4mile. BUT i like corvettes!! If i have that money, i will not buy 09zr1 , i would rather supercharge my Lt-5 bring the power to 650. Then see what that beast gono do :) |

RACE READY CALLAWAY http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p...awayLMZR-1.jpg AND IT HAS WINGS TO FLY WITH  PROLY NOT A DRAG GUY THOUGH MORE LIKE "ROAD AMERICA" http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p...oadamerica.jpg MAYBE THAT IS WHERE "CAL GUYS" HANG OUT AT ??? http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p...VESANDDAVE.jpg As a genuine fan of Reeves Callaway and Callaway Corvettes, I always take the time to watch, listen or read accounts of his work. Former Corvette Engineering Chief Dave McLellan recently had the opportunity to sit down with Reeves for an audio podcast. The two touched on a variety of subjects including their past collaboration on twin turbo Corvettes, the late Eighties 254 mph Corvette project called the Sledgehammer, today's Callaway Corvettes and the European FIA GT3 series of which Callaway builds cars for and races in. http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p...EIGER-ZR-1.jpg ARE GEIGER GUYS SNOBS AS WELL??? |

I think it's Phils car. Pete |
Re: Comment on new ZR1
That is Phil's car running a 10.85 the car has a Callaway body kit on it and the engine was built by LPE.
The LS7 engines cylinder sleeve's strength aren't the weak link for FI. The weak link is actually the length of the sleeve. Plus the newer LS3 blocks are built for FI with more nickle content and support. Unlike the early version's of the LS3. The new ZR-1 is a total animal. Also alot like our ZR1's where they start pulling well at 100+ MPH. The new ZR-1's kill us in the torque department. As far as handling well let's say that the ZR-1 is light years ahead. Approach them with extreme caution. Hey ....technology moves on  |
Re: Comment on new ZR1
I was at Da Grove Sunday Helping my friend , when a new ZR1 & A new Viper pull into the water The zr1 Didn't have any Plates Or License Applied For on it. It left the line perfect Don't know if the guy was that good or it was a 2010 with launch control the viper had plates [nos vpr] was he running nos ? don't know. He ran 11.55 didn't catch the mph.
the ZR1 wen't 11.39 @ 128 & change With a near perfect Leave. All I can say is they better stay away from Pete Or they Will wish they saved there 200,000 + $$$ Bob G |

As it's been pointed out. It's a Callaway Aerobody on Phils 415 LPE built LT5. We are talking about Callaway TT's. Let me know the next time the Le Mans body kit car even set foot near a track. I doubt it will approach any speed that is near "Race Ready" Let me know how many Geigers you will ever see in your lifetime. |

BUT i am so sure the exhaust system is CALLAWAY brand. ask me!! Get the info correct buddy. P.S. IF Phill ,had front Calla LM Hood on his Z (which is Carbon Fiber) as i had info from Calla. long time ago. and replacing the Heavy noze + Hood, he could go Low 10s. Damn Callaway. it rocks. :D |
Re: Comment on new ZR1
Lingenfelter Himself after driven the Sledg TT and run 254.7 mph , he told Reeves C. damn i thought my cars go faster.
R.I.P John How many Enzo you see go to drag strip?!? now try to be next to this car some day and try make him angry, i am sure he will show you something! most these guys Do not go to track, and it doesn't mean he is Coward :-) . |

Re: Comment on new ZR1
Engine is Not the ONLY make car go faster!!
suspension, exhaust system ,and aerodynamic and lighter body make huge deference, my friend. P.S. since Phil used Slicks on the rear , He should use drag wheels (15X3.5) in front, this could lower his ET .3 - .4 sec. he have his reason why he did not! when i was darg racing, i used cheap spare wheel in front. and won 5 champions with my Supercharged 86 vette ,what a trick!! |
