Gentlemen,

Just read that Bult Field has been sold to IDOT. The October event has been cancelled unfortunately. WGF is looking for another venue in the Midwest, but for now it looks like top speed racing is done for the year in the Chicagoland area.
I understand the Michigan Mile was also cancelled.

I'm sure Blake (@wannaGOFAST) will also create a thread on this but I just saw this come across FB

Quote:
It is with a very heavy heart that we must inform everyone that as of June 30th Bult Field in Monee, IL has been sold to the Illinois Department of Transportation.

This government organization has no desire to allow us to host our events anymore, therefore we must cancel our October 11-12th, 2014 Chicago 1/2 Mile Shootout.

We want to sincerely thank all of our sponsors, participants and fans who made this event such a huge success in a very small period of time. You welcomed our staff to your city with open arms and we enjoyed meeting each and everyone of you.

We hope that all of you enjoyed the event as much as all of our staff did and that you got to really experience your cars the way you've always wanted.....as this has been our intention with these events since Day 1.

Please know that we are not giving up on the MidWest and that we are currently searching for a new home for this event.

Take care fellow MidWest GOFAST Family and we hope to have some great news for you in the future!
Kindest Regards,
-Blake & the WGF Crew

Well, that sucks. The Illinois StateTreasury is hemorrhaging as it is. WTF are they buying private aircraft airports for anyway?

Too bad Lake in the hills airport is only .72 miles I think they would do something like this...they are pushing to generate more revenue

Here is a copy of the article in the Trib. It is the Illinois Dept. of Transportation. Part of the land grab for the Peotone airport where all the politicians and their friends probably own land. Paid $34 million of our money for 288 acres or about ten times the value of good Illinois farmland, and ten times the amount paid for the first 3,315 acres bought. Somebody knows somebody I'll bet. Aren't Illinois politics wonderful. -Bob
