At some point in my life I am going to have to buy a little stallion, Maybe my 60th birthday as a midlife crisis vehicle.

You can just unplug the solenoid on the left side of the trans for now to get rid of the 1-4 lock out, you will still get the light on the dash but no lock out.

Re: 8 cams are better than four!

Care package from Marc Haibeck arrived and work commenced. The old gasket came off pretty easily and I cleaned up the surface. Then I started removing all the old hoses including the crossover pipe, and I am very glad I did. Incredible amount of corrosion in the crossover, totally unusable. I think I know what killed the water pump. I'll have to replace it, which means my goal of hitting the road tomorrow is not gonna happen. Also means I probably should flush the whole system a couple times. Does the block have freeze plugs?

Oh and two things. First, whoever decided to use all those pinch clamps should be shot. I'm replacing them all with proper hose clamps. Then that bottom hose to the thermostat is an incredible bitch to remove. Stupid pinch clamp, zero room to get any leverage, and an original hose completely glued in place. It took a combination of cutting the hose, the smallest channel locks I have, and a screwdriver slowly walking the clamp off. Oh and a nice finned cooler to make hash of my hands is a bonus.

So in the interests of getting at least one thing done, I installed the window regulator I got from Marc, worked perfectly. Window adjusted and drivers door back together, felt good. At least now I can roll the car out, wash it and get some decent pics.

Laugh if you want but getting that lower hose attached to the water pump has got to be one of the most difficult things I've ever done on a car. And I've changed motor mounts on a 928. It took hot water to soften the hose and practically climbing into the engine bay trying to get enough leverage, millimeter by millimeter. Holy hell my arms hurt.

But it's on and tomorrow I should finally button everything back up and bring the beast back to life. My wife is really looking forward to it.

Thanks so much for the offer! If you're up here on the north side, you're welcome to come by any time, and once I get it back on the road and debugged, I'll be sure to head down your way.

For some reason that hose just kicked my ***. But I'm in the home stretch now, really want to get back in the driver's seat.

Marc Haibeck seconds your complaint. When he had my engine out for porting last winter we talked about a preventive of replacing all the radiator hoses. He said they were all fine but said he wanted to replace the lower radiator hose anyway because it is such a pain in the butt to get out when the engine is in the car. Which he did. --Bob

Turbos would make it scream but I'm not that rich haha. Now I need a proper shop for all of it!
