The upper one, yes. Not the one surrounding the shifter mechanism.

The seats look mint!
Mine also has the matte look, but of unknown reasons the "corvette" stitching was black. The foam also didn't really fit perfectly, as the metal inside was not positioned precisely enough. |
Re: 90 ZR-1 #2273 - To be rescued
Car's finally back on the road, and all clutch related noises have disappeared.
Not a complete success though, as I managed to tear the lower boot while installing. Guess NOS rubber also means brittle rubber. To add salt to injury, the rubber-like trim on the drivers side of the console is also starting to let go of its plastic frame, letting in all kinds of transmission noises. Is it possible to aquire this part? The throttle body repair seemingly did nothing. Idle is still 750 RPM with 0 IAC counts. More vacuum leak searching to come. The Corsa exhaust I bought here on the forum has removed the drone, but it's still incredibly loud, even at very low loads. A bit annoyed with myself for not checking if the cats had been gutted while the exhaust was removed. |

I have not. Will do this before doing any more digging. Thanks!

Re: 90 ZR-1 #2273 - To be rescued
Did the minimum air adjustment today, but unfortunately to no avail. The throttle blades came back from Haibeck completely closed, and unscrewing the throttle adjustment screw any further did not change the idle. Could see the screw lifting from the throttle.
Could not find any external leaks using motor starter spray around manifold and Connections, nor could I reduce the throttle by disconnecting and blocking manifold vacuum outlets. The only thing affecting the idle, was removing the pipe to the crank vent, and blocking it. This reduced the idle to a lumpy 500 RPM. Is it correct that such amounts of air should be sucked through the crank? The breather hoses are new, and one (of the two) of the internal valves has been replaced. Could not find the second one, but seem to remember having tested it for proper function/tightness. Anyway, to get the car nice and warm, I took it out for a spin on the Island where the vessel I currently work on is docked. https://imageshack.com/a/img922/4518/EzIgne.jpg Wanted to take a pic of the car below the Arctic circle marker, but too many people around, and I dont like being seen taking photos of my car. https://imageshack.com/a/img923/6349/sQaTND.jpg And yes, my camera is still aweful. |

The crank vent? Do u mean the PCV tube?
|
Re: 90 ZR-1 #2273 - To be rescued
Yes, doesn't it draw through the injector housings? Positive Crank Vent?

Re: 90 ZR-1 #2273 - To be rescued
I don't suppose anyone here has an old steering rack laying around?
I belive I've got some play in mine, and have been considering letting Turn One rebuild it. Shipping such a unit from Norway is however not very cost efficient, so it'd might be cheaper just to buy a core in the US. |
Re: 90 ZR-1 #2273 - To be rescued
Not much action this season, but got her out to strech her legs a few times.
Installed a new headunit as well (Pioneer AVH5800), but on a 90 I think it's too much cutting involved to fit one, so I think I'll replace the Pioneer with a shallow mount headunit. Don't need the CD-mechanism. The few test trips was however enough to kill one of the front amps, so it seems I won't be running out of projects. Winter is coming, so I assume this was one of the last trips of the season. They look good, these old vettes. http://zr1.net/forum/picture.php?alb...pictureid=4018 |

I've been going throught the car from underneath the last few days, and discovered something peculiar. The whole rear subframe seems to be offset towards the drivers side by just over 1/4", which results in the left rear wheel sticking over 1/2" further out of the wheel arch than the right rear wheel.
Not a major issue if the problem was purely cosmetic, but such is not my luck. The inner side of the tire seems to be touching the rod-mounts. http://www.zr1.net/forum/attachment....1&d=1653637991 http://www.zr1.net/forum/attachment....1&d=1653637991 Which makes my wheels unhappy. http://www.zr1.net/forum/attachment....1&d=1653637991 Has anyone encountered this issue? there doesn't seem to be any structural damage. However, many of the bushings are starting to show signs of age, and as I have given up finding OEM rubber bushings, I've thrown in the towel and ordered a complete set of SuperPro bushes for the rear end. Including batwing mounts. By the way, anyone know the recommended camber/toe settings for the rear? |

While waiting for parts, other minor issues may be corrected. Like testing heat resistant paint types, which may or may not set the car on fire.
http://www.zr1.net/forum/attachment....1&d=1653638367 A few brackets also get a sandblast/respray treatment. http://www.zr1.net/forum/attachment....1&d=1653638367 Upon receiving the new SuperPro bushes, the batwing will be removed. Anything else one should do "while in there"? http://www.zr1.net/forum/attachment....1&d=1653638367 |
Re: 90 ZR-1 #2273 - To be rescued
I rescued #2822,1990 Z back in 2018 from Myrtle Beach SC. It had been just sitting for many years. 74k miles on the clock. I started at the fuel tank and worked my way forward. Got tags and insurance May 2020. I have driven her over 6k miles so far and plan on many more. Get a shop manual, electrical supplement and dive right in. It is a well engineered machine and is a blast to drive. I have learned so much about this machine through this site, Mark H and many members on this site. It's very satisfying wrenching on this beast. I still have so much I want to do to my Z, slowly getting there.
Congrats on your purchase, enjoy! |
