Mike - Yes, absolutely get a reservation. You could go anywhere but we do a big cookout and burn out contest against the diesel truck guys out in the parking lot. You don't want to have to drive anywhere after that event.

I made reservations for The Gathering at the 20 NCM event last august at the Country Hearth Inn that is across the street from the NCM. Is anyone staying there? Seems like an ideal location especially for 50 bucks per night!

I've stayed there in the past - it's pretty basic - you get what you pay for. Wifey likes it because she can walk from the NCM when she gets bored with guy stuff.

Jim

I have seen it and it's pretty rough. You get what you pay for, like Glen said

The holiday inn is renovated, hot buffet breakfast for 2pp (thanks Robert) and center for all nighttime activities after the NCM closes

Can't wait for 2015!!

Cheers

Yeah, that's the best part about staying at H-Inn. You can drink your fill and still stagger to bed.

Thanks for the tips on heratige inn. Wife will be much happier at holiday inn. We are driving so far it will most likely be my only trip to a gathering so i hope to meet some of you all. Well worth a few extra bucks.

You made the right choice, for sure. RARELY, do I ever have an issue at a Holiday Inn. Pretty consistent.

Hope to meet you there. :handshak:

Just made our reservation for the trip....since my birthday is May 16th, what better way to celebrate than with the 25th Anniv for the ZR-1???

Would also like the private tour, had one back in 98, with a worker at the plant, that we knew very well at the time. Don't know if he still works there or not, lost contact with him many years ago.

With all this talk about reservation, room rates and who's coming from where, I think the track day discussion has gotten lost.

The track day activities....

Is this going to be actual laps at speed or is this going to be pace laps behind an instructor who's driving at 7/10ths?

Also, will this be an actual "day" or just a brief session on the track?

Finally, any idea on cost?

Thanks.

More importantly, do I have to upgrade my helmet - i doubt they will accept an SA2005 anymore.

The retired SCCA fire/rescue worker that I am, I can remember people asking that question back in the day when I worked at various racetracks in the southwest.

My answer always was, why would you even ask if you already knew there was a helmet meeting a newer, safer specification available?

Now, David...

Surely you are not implying that various Zroners consume excessive quantities of alcoholic beverages.

I would NEVER do anything like that but I have heard tall tales of such things happening.

Maybe this time I can spend more time drinking and smoking cigars instead of working on my car!

Will they allow a motorcycle helmet for use on the track? I have a Bell Star helmet that I use for riding my motorcycle, but it seems I might need to get a different helmet.

Can you get a cheaper 3/4 helmet that is approved for track use?

Me and my 4 Swiss ZR-1 gang member friends will attend this meeting. We will land on 9th May in Nashville and visit quickly Graceland in Memphis and then go strict to Bowling Green.

Are there some intersting places between Memphis and Bowling Green to see?

Not car related but Mammoth Cave Park is near by. Great cave system, easy to explore and they have short, medium and long tours per your needs.

Craig,

Thank you Craig

It's a interesting proposal. We land on 9th May in Nashville at about 5.00 PM and stay over night. So we look for interesting places, pubs or bars to go. My hope is to find a restaurant, where we can eat tasty big steaks and bison meat. Maybe somebody of you guys have a idea?
The same about Memphis. Are there people who can advice us where to go, beside of visiting Graceland? We plan to stay from Sunday the 10th till Tuesday the 12th. We also can leave one day earlier.

On the way back from Memphis to Bowling Green, which route is the more interesting to drive. The route 40 (Memphis - Nashville) or another one?

Is it worth to visit in Kentucky the facility Jim Beam? Or does anybody have another interesting idea? In Bowling Green we will check in on Wednesday the 13th May.

And by the way: 2-3 Ladies will join us. Maybe somebody know interesting shopping malls or outlets?

We are open for all kind of ideas and proposals in our tour planing.

Re: ZR-1 / GS Gathering May 13 thru 16, 2015

Sam, my wife and I spent a week in Kentucky back in October and there is plenty to do. She wanted to see the sinkhole before they filled it in so we did the NCM tour as well as the plant tour.

We then headed to Lexington and on the way stopped by the Makers Mark distillery and the Woodford Reserve distillery (the oldest distillery in the USA). There are numerous distilleries that do tours.

Once we were in Lexington we visited Keeneland Park which is one of the major horse tracks and took a tour which was really cool. One of the most amazing things we did was we took a guided tour of 6-8 of the top horse farms around Lexington. It takes most of the day and it is amazing. We visited the farm of Kenny McPeek who is one of the top trainers and were feeding some of the horses we had seen run in past Kentucky Derbys. The horse farms around Lexington are a great thing to visit.

We then headed back west to Louisville and visited Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby Museum and took that tour as well as the tour of the Louisville Bat company in downtown Louisville.

As far as malls and outlets we didn't visit any but there are a lot of antique shops to hit.

Basically, I highly recommend spending some time in Kentucky if you have the opportunity. We loved our visit.
