65. Bought it when I was 59. Have put 11K miles on the car and considerably more on my body since then!;)

Oops, looks like I already voted! I guess my memory (or lack thereof) gives away my age!

32 here. I remember reading about the ZR-1 when they first came out, thinking it was the coolest car ever made.

Picked mine up earlier this summer. Kind of a throwback "reliving my youth" car for me I guess.

I was 20 when I was working in the Chevy store at the time of the ZR-1s arrival. Never will forget seeing that first one. I'm 41 now. Isn't adulthood wonderful? We can finally go after what we couldn't have in our early years - like my '91 ZR-1 (#1464).

Re: How old are the ZR-1 owners?

My daughter-in-law keeps telling me that the only people that she sees driving vettes are old guys, and she makes fun of them and me; mid-life crisis and all she says. But being that she is marrried to my son (33), I think she is hinting for me to give my ZR-1 to a "more appropriate" driver, namely, him or her. The guilt ploy is not working.

Re: How old are the ZR-1 owners?

Midlife crisis is a term coined in 1965 by Elliott Jaques and used in Western societies to describe a period of dramatic self-doubt that is felt by some individuals in the "middle years" or middle age of life, as a result of sensing the passing of their own youth and the imminence of their old age. Sometimes, a crisis can be triggered by transitions experienced in these years, such as extramarital affairs, andropause or menopause, the death of parents or other causes of grief, unemployment or underemployment, realizing that a job or career is hated but not knowing how else to earn an equivalent living, or children leaving home. The result may be a desire to make significant changes in core aspects of day-to-day life or situation, such as in career, work-life balance, marriage, romantic relationships, big-ticket expenditures, or physical appearance.

Academic research since the 1980s rejects the notion of midlife crisis as a phase that most adults go through. In one study, fewer than 10% of people in the United States had psychological crises due to their age or aging. Personality type and a history of psychological crisis are believed to predispose some people to this "traditional" midlife crisis. People going through this suffer a variety of symptoms and exhibit a disparate range of behaviors.

Many middle aged adults experience major life events that can cause a period of psychological stress or depression, such as the death of a loved one, or a career setback. However, those events could have happened earlier or later in life, making them a "crisis," but not necessarily a midlife one. In the same study, 15% of middle-aged adults experienced this type of midlife turmoil.

Some studies indicate that some cultures may be more sensitive to this phenomenon than others, one study found that there is little evidence that people undergo midlife crises in Japanese and Indian cultures, raising the question of whether a midlife crisis is mainly a cultural construct. The authors hypothesized that the "culture of youth" in Western societies accounts for the popularity of the midlife crisis concept there.

Researchers have found that midlife is often a time for reflection and reassessment, but this is not always accompanied by the psychological upheaval popularly associated with "midlife crisis."

I'm 51, bought our ZR-1 Jan 2010 when I was still 50. Drove it on Hiway 1 on a 3 day trip with my wife. I've wanted to take that drive since I was 19. Finally did it in style. I have 2 other Vettes both C3's - a 72 Big Block and a 74 350 - both "original motor" cars.:fahne:

Post some photos in the "members rides" section of your ZR-1 and your C3's for us all to see.

Re: How old are the ZR-1 owners?

On the original subject, this poll sure is skewing ancient isn't it?

Damn, there are more owners over 60 than there are in the 30 -39 bracket.

It looks like confirmation of a demographic study that I read years ago, stating that the kids that fell in love with Corvettes in the fifties and sixtees are still the ones that support the brand. Marketing wise, the Corvette is a "boomer" phenomenon.

It doesn't look good for the future of the car. When we die off.

It is the same exact thing in my Ham Radio hobby.

Gen X and the the Digital Gen Y are more into their Smart Cell Phones and the Internet message and video services via computers than getting into the true "Wireless Radios" that need real antennas to communicate.

IMO with the new C6 looking much like all the other Hi-Po coups on the market we are witness to the blending of the Corvette into the mainstream.

I predict the day will come when the Vette and the Caddy and the Camero will all be about the same. We all know how the General likes to SHARE between the different models both in the past and no doubt in the future.

C'est la vie as the French would say!

Thanks for the welcome. I added a few pics to my profile - the ZR-1 and the 72 Vette. The 74 is a project car at this point. I hope to get it back on the road soon.

Re: How old are the ZR-1 owners?

57 now but got my first ZR1 about 5 years ago.

I agree the Corvette has been a "boomer" phenomenon. In my opinion I think we have seen the peak for C-1s and C-2s as the boomers age. It is also possible that C-3s have peaked.

I think a C-4 like a ZR-1 has the respect of the younger crowd who realize what it represents. Because of the realitively low production #s the values of original low mileage ZR-1's will rebound in the next 5 years.

My $0.02.

I don't miss them at all. I understand the appeal of ham radio, but the new revolution in personal communications has actually caused revolutions around the world. Longtime dictators are biting the dust everywhere because the social media are allowing oppressed people to connect, organize, and fight for their freedom. More power to them.

Cars, ham radio, such antique enthusiasms, so "20th Century".:D

Just kiddin', I love my"Antique ZR-1"

Tom,

Don't you know there is a time warp plane that stretches across from the A pillar to the B pillar to the threshold of these cars? Crossing the plane resets you clock to about 19 years old...or at least that's what people lucky enough to ride shotgun have told me!

Re: How old are the ZR-1 owners?

Yesterday, Thanksgiving, and my 67th birthday too. This car is a "Time Machine". It takes me back to 1967 when I had a split window coupe, a real street racer. Solid lifters, open pipes, and a 4.56 gear. The sound the ZR-1 makes reminds me of that car, just more civilized. That's why it sees 7K almost every time out.

Okay, Now that explains the whole thing. Thanks Paul. I was beginning to wonder why I find it so difficult to just get out of bed on workday mornings....Yet, no matter how bad a day or week I've had as soon as I put my right foot over that high sill.... the next thing I know is I'm in & belted & her nose is in the wind...and i didn't feel a thing!

Re: How old are the ZR-1 owners?

I can imagine the data in this poll gets stale too like many others over time.
Cars get sold and we all progress up the scale :(
When a car is sold the old owner is not likely to come here and update things.

Some polls that get stale and could possibly be redone every so many years.
1. What oil we use
2. Where are the cars.
3. What spark plugs
4. What mileage you have
5. How old are we.

Why reset?
Well for accuracy and for posterity.
Who knows someone may want to right a book on the changing preferences over time :icon_thum
On the other hand. Who cares..........

When I turned 50 (eight years ago) I gave myself a birthday present of my first Corvette. And, now I'm on my fifth Corvette in eight years....the 1991 ZR-1, which I have owned for exactly three years today (10/12/12)...!!

Or it could be that we are all suffering a "mid life crisis" as the squints call it? I prefer to just tell them that I never grew up, so I can't have a mid life crisis!:sign10:

I bought my car from the original owner who was 50 when he bought the car, so apparently it was HIS mid-life crisis and I just inherited it...but it's definately fun on a bun. But when I see the results here maybe it should be "Over the Hill" instead of "King of the Hill" =D couldn't help myself.
