Clutch install sucks
 
Well the tear down was easy. Install, PITA so far.....I borrowed a trans jack, the jack has a V in it and others have used it successfully, so this is an operator error issue.

I found out that when I tried to move the trans to position it, it would slip in the V in the trans jack, ultimately flipping completely in its side. I rightsided it 2X before going out and buying a trans jack adapter, only issue was that to get it under it had to go in on its side(trans). So I ended up putting the trans on the floor, sliding it under the car on a board. putting the tail end of the trans on the trans jack, then lifting the front with one arm and sliding the jack with the trans adapter under the front with the other.

The trans is now in postion....still need to stab the pilot bearing.

PS: 16"s of clearance is definately not enough! Wife also is out hounding me also....when is this going to be done.:dontknow:

Work until frustrated then quit, next day will have a new perspective.

Lee did you make some guide studs to screw into the bell housing yet? If not I would suggest you do it. They will help you line up and guide the trany in.

This will make it much better lining that trans up! Make sure they all protrude exactly the same. Push the trans up against the bell housing with one hand while turning the rear trans shaft slightly with the other, you will feel it catch.
i used my impact wrench to drive the bolts on the brace much faster.

Anybody with personal knowledge or experience compare the McLeod vrs. Fidanza? This was never answered except
that there is a $$ difference.

No noise from the Mcleod, per my bathroom scale its about 16.5 pounds.

Keep in mind I weighed it on a bathroom scale, which may not be super accurate one way or another, website did not give the wieght.

Trying to remember is hard for an old man. However I think my flywheel on #364 was McLeod. Seems like it was 13 lb but could have been heavier. It was put in about 2000 and stayed in the car to the end. Tried several different clutch disks but mainly used stock disks and pressure plate. Got them from Carolina Clutch. That setup with 4.10 gears worked well for me. It held using ET Street slicks and coming off the line very hard using spray. It was fairly noisy as usual with a single mass but with my exhaust, that was a minor detail. That flywheel is one of the things I kept. That setup with slicks and spray got me in the 1.5 - 1.6 60'. Also worked just fine on the street and ORR. Can't even begin to remember how much I paid for it.

There is a guy over on CF with an LT4 that had a hardon for a DM flywheel,found one and paid $1200 for it.It seems to me that the ZR-1 crowd would be just as happy with something other than the DM flywheel,does that seem about right?On a side note,$1200 for a flywheel?
