Would be cool to have custom Registry Emblems made....something like ZR-1 on the left side and Net Registry on the other or even something totally different. We can have the factory ones reproduced but it might be kinda cool to have something else made up.

The only model paint was the white and thats because it looked the best out of all the white paint samples I tried, the black is single stage Dupont from the Nason line.Heres a few pictures on the car, they came out really nice.I tried pretty much everything I could think of to get the red outline for the Bowtie but couldnt get it to look right.Id like to do a 90,Im pretty sure I could get it right. yeah I had some 'automotive' black, then I used model paint (after you mentioned it) for the white and the red (90 emblem) I need to go get gold though, as I did not have any. then one emblem will be done

Re: Cam Cover Emblems

They came out out nice.... you know Testors model paints use to make something that looked like a felt marker except with enamel. That might work on getting the bowtie outlined in red... I'll look at the hobbyshop next time Im there and get an orange and red.

Was the motor refinished? Simply looks stock and beautiful!
Also, is your ECM cover stock? Quite different from later car. I had a 91 but cannot recall how that one looked-been 13 years...

lastly, are these emblems glued on?

The emblems are glued on with black RTV sealent. The ECM cover is painted with black ZOLOTONE 20-06 and I made the smaller panel on the front,I also painted the ECM bracket. The cam covers had some very minor stains in a few places. The worst place was around the area by the driver cam cover emblem, the more I tried to get the stain off the worse it got so I mixed up some paint ,used my air brush and fixed it.Other than that the motor finish is stock.Heres a picture of the ECM bracket.

Original on the top....alittle communication problem with our foreign friends.....they thought the out emblem was silver.....it needs more curve, and also it needs to be alittle golder in the emblem.

Re: Cam Cover Emblems

Obviously i will have them make changes....might also have them do the 92-95 once I see they have matched the curve.

Let me know if there are any other change suggestions.

WOW, that is pretty Lee. When you get the final details figured out, you will have a nice product.

I would be interested in a version that is not curved so I can attach it to my tool box.

How about a Christmas tree ornament? How about a necklace? Don't you hate it when people "help" you with you product development.

I think it might be that the black border isn't thick enough. The total dimension looks similar though.

Nice looking emblem! A few tweaks and it'll be hard to tell which is which (except that one looks new)

Re: Cam Cover Emblems

Here is the response from the emblem company......looks like for some reason the ridge/ring has to be soft enamel.....see my note, I think I can coat the emblem in high temp paint and "seal the soft enamel.....your thoughts?

I have heard back from the manufacturer. Let me know if you have any questions and what you think so that I can get back to them.

1. We can curve the emblem more.: Curve needs to match exactly if possible

2. The emblem can't be painted black with the hard enamel. If you need it paint black, we will need to use soft enamel, which is same as the sample, and it can't bare the heat well. Pls note. This could be an issue, I wonder if they use soft black, maybe I can then coat that in high heat clear coat.....might preserve the black.

3. The yellow cross was same size as the sample; it looks wider because the colors are full and flat on the cross. The sample is recessed with color, so it looks like ours bigger than the sample. How do you think? Pls advice. Thank you.
ok

4. I am afraid that we don't have many choices on the colors. The hard enamel (solid powder) is different from imitation hard enamel (mix by different colors). I found two colors that close to the color in the cross of the sample. But they are transparent colors, not solid colors. Will that be ok? pls see attached and let me know which one you need. Thank you.

237 looks correct

Thanks.....

how is this for bowtie color

LGAFF 06-16-2009 09:17 PM

Re: Cam Cover Emblems

Here is the emblem with the color 237 cut and pasted into the bowtie.....keep in mind it will be flat the color template has a pattern

http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q...ff/Emblem1.jpg

Here is side shot of thickness.....this is prebend:

http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/lgaff/side.jpg

Chance I may get the detail work done, have them sent to me and the paint the ring black with high temp.....they did tell me original paint is soft enamel on the OEM.

LGAFF 06-20-2009 10:44 PM

Re: Cam Cover Emblems

Latest update......

They are going to use the same enamel that was on the OEM emblem, I will then seal the emblem with ceramic paint when I receive.....I will also test the emblem under high heat.

Using the same as OEM paint allows them to color match everything.

The outer ring is being checked for width and will be adjusted if needed.

Christ this is a pain in the A$$.....I hope this pays off!

Thanks for your patience and support!:hello:

Lee, for the price i think they look awesome

Will clear coat yellow with engine heat?

If the OE paint held up for 15 years i would think these will hold up for at least 5.

Re: Cam Cover Emblems

lee,

I'll take 20 emblems when they are finished, off course , this depends on the likeness of the OEM's. I do like the way the vendor and yourself keep going back and working with the problem, i think this will only benefit everyone.

anyone have a heat gun to check how hot the cam cover gets?

I am going to test them coated in cermaic and uncoated to see how they do....the paint used on these is the same as OEM.

Thanks again for your effort Lee . As far as how hot the cam cover gets...kind of an open question to some degree. If a guys in Florida & his Rad is dirty, could run around 240º/250ºF, where as a guy in your neck of the woods with a proper running temp. Zee would be more like in the 200º/215ºF range. So how much of a factor do you want to build in? If the emblem can handle upwards of 250ºF, that's pretty warm already...would be nice to have a used/beat-up emblem to use as a test mule to fire up.

Re: Cam Cover Emblems

soo if I leave it at 350-400 for 2hrs...,,that would be a solid test? Any thoughts?
