Re: Powder Coating Question
Appreciate all the info. I didn?t really want to ship the parts so I ended up talking to a local powder coating shop and discussed the precautions that needed to be made. I?m very happy with how it turned out.

Re: Powder Coating Question
That turned out very nice. How much of a pain was it breaking those came cover torx bolts loose? I am apprehensive of taking off the cam covers because torx seems to strip very very easily, even with the right sized bit. I like the idea of powder coat, as paint doesn?t sound as durable.

Re: Powder Coating Question
Well I guess I was lucky in that I didn?t strip any of the cam cover bolts. I made sure to use all of my weight on the back of the ratchet and also used a cheater bar. That was honestly the easier part for me. The harder part was removing everything in the way to take the cam covers off. It?s just a lot of work. I already had the transmission out so I ended up removing the driver side engine mount nut and lifting that side of the engine to get access to the bolts behind the brake booster, otherwise the brake booster needs to also be removed which is a pain. I don?t think I would have done it just to powder coat them, but mine were leaking so I wanted to reseal them.

Re: Powder Coating Question
As long as you have removed all the torx bolts,
good time to replace them with hex head bolts from Jerry's. |
