next time drag radials and I think i'll get 160+ all day. We'll just wait for the October running.

AL.

Woo Hoo! Congratz on busting into the 160s!

As for the white C5Z, I ran against him on my first pass. It was wicked sounding at the line, and he pulled away the entire pass. Might have been FI, but I don't know, but was waaay up the HP ladder, for sure!

Well...October? Hmmm.... If I can get around to the mods in time, I may run then too. But, if not, and you DO run, I'll be there to see it! Hopefully some others with the big guns can make it too, like Bob G and Kevin and Marc!:dancing

Re: 1/2 Mile shootout today!

[QUOTE=Paul Workman;206113].......On my second run I was paired up with Bob. Our motors were about even, power wise (510 ish) but he was rowing with 4.10s and mine was the stock 3.45s. On the heals of that recent forum thread discussion about rear gears and which had the advantage in what circumstances, I was eager to see how the two cars would perform.

Quick on the draw, Bob got a couple car lengths on me at the line. And he got another length by the time I shifted into 2nd. That 4.10 gear was workin' for him, no doubt! But, at the big end, I was still in 4th and Bob had shifted to 5th and the gap was shrinking - pretty much exactly as expected. Bob did cross the finish line ahead of me at (I think he said) 138(?) mph, where the Phoenix turned in my best at 144.23 mph. One pass does not a trend make, but as I said, it was interesting to compare two cars with reasonably close setup except for rear gearing.....[Quote]

Paul is right--I ran 138, exactly what I ran last year. As Paul and I discussed it, we concluded that shifting into fifth does slow me down some, but I think the real reason is that I short shift a bit. Using the tach I shift around or just under 7,000 where as Paul has a calibrated shift light and shifts at 7,200 (He has moved up his rev limiter to 7,500 he said; mine is still stock at 7,200 I believe). I may well be shifting as low as 6,800 depending on accuracy and lag of the tach. Since Paul's car is almost identical to mine in power, my guess is that the driver should take most of the blame for being the club slow guy. I suspect that an extra 400 rpms on each shift would put me into the 140s even with a shift to fifth. Maybe another time.

And congrats to Al for his 160 run. I know he could do it. Very impressive. And other than Dom's small oil leak nothing broke, so all in all it was a good day with great weather. Hope the leak problem is not anything major.--Bob

I was there for the magical 160mph run. It was a sight to see when the MPH sign flashed 160.47. It was nice to see Al's Z spank all comers that were in the same class.
I am going to talk to Blake and see if he would create a third class. NA manufacturer equipped.
While Al's Car is heavily modified it does have the original motor from pan to hat (Plenum in our case) and the original electronics.

I'm having an issue uploading my iPhone .mov files to Photobucket. Anybody got a solution. Have 2 vids of Al's car.

This is a rolling start, correct?
Can you break out if you are rolling too fast?

No it's not A rolling start, although you can have that the cones are 200 feet out.
No you can't break out it's not set-up like 1/4 mile runs.

Al.

A few more vids

I love Matt Farah's comments. And then somebody asks if that's a ZR1 and someone else answers "They're both ZR-1s"

I love it.

Al's buddy took some of them. I was able to upload them to my YouTube account. If he could get some traction, look out. I guess AMS put out a little blurb about the event this weekend and said the weather was crap. However, the event was great. I thought a bit of a better job this year than last. But the "lunch" was a bit of a joke and I still think they are staging things the wrong way. Having said that, it's cool to move down the runway. I was able to put the car in Neutral at the end of run and then clamp down on the brakes w room to spare.
