Default Header questions

I'm probably going to put headers on my car this winter in addition to 4:10s. Some questions -

With the cats gone, what has to happen with the AIR blower? Leave it connected or pull it and all of the associated parts? For that matter, what about the O2 sensors? I've seen some set ups that required extensions to the harness. Will regular exhaust gaskets work with headers, or is it case by case?

I'm not subject to emissions inspections (yet), which makes things easier. I was looking at Doug Rippie's set-up (which has connections for the AIR lines). Good choice, or pick something else?

DRM no longer sells those headers. They sold Watsons at the time. I'm sure they will source out the Stainless Works headers, but it won't have the air tubes.

You can remove all the air injection garbage. Save you about 10 lbs total with everything gone.

And you do want to run cats. The smell sucks with out them. And it's a very potent smell.

Check. Is it cats in the headers, or can they be in an x pipe?

Usual combo is headers - cats-x-pipe/resonator.

I put new Bosch O2 sensors from Autozone on a couple of yrs ago, with Stainless Works headers. The leads were longer than the stock O2 sensors and did not require extensions.

You can do without all the AIR, but save it in case you sell and the perspective owner wants it. Watson headers (no longer made but sets do come up for sale) had the AIR tubes. As to which brand, most people are buying the SW's, but used Jeals also pop up from time to time.

I am cat free and have an x-pipe going into a B&B. Needless to say it is loud, but I do not have an issue with the noise or smell. The Bosch O2 sensors are commonly used, and if you did need extensions for your existing sensors you can buy them from here

All the same except for the smaller sized primary Watsons. The Alspaugh headers are Stainless works.

Its really a PITA to keep and work with (and around) all the AIR stuff. But I'm in
CA and wanted to keep it as close to legal as possible. I got a set of headers and sent them to Marc Haibeck who added the AIR fittings, EGR fitting, and coated them. Great job! I also went with hi flow cats. A reprogrammed PROM also made a big difference. Passed smog a couple of weeks ago (with the stock prom)! The new Bosch oxy sensors had long enough leads. I bought some (loose!) heat wrap for any wires close to the headers. New stock gaskets.
