Talking Clutch Hydraulic Fluid - Valvoline OK

Well folks, I just talked with the ZFDoc, Bill Boudreau today, and he told me we can use Valvoline FULL Synthetic, Dot 3/Dot 4 brake fluid for the clutch bleeding. He has used it extensively and has had no problems with it. He made sure to point out the bleeder valve needs to be wrapped 7 or 8 ties with teflon tape prior to commencing the bleeding process. This is great news as I was having problems finding the right stuff from GM, and when i did it was $12.00 a pint. Valvoline at CSK was just over $7 a Quart.

I am doing this very soon. 70k on the car and don't know when it was last done (if ever). He recommends a Phoenis Brake bleeder, which I already have.

My 91's slave has always leaked a little and I've filled it with any DOT3
stuff I had, usually (gasp) Ford HD. Sometimes ATE Blue even. Over time
the leak rate went down and I hardly ever add any now. Car has 45k miles
and no squeaks either. Self-healing ZR-1 - one of a kind.

I used Valvoline synthetic also. Great to see clean fluid bleed out after the
dirty crap is flushed. Be aware that because of the position of the bleed screw on the slave it is easy to suck in air and when done bleeding have no pedal pressure. Don't ask me how I know...........
Quite a surprise and disappointment after all that work.
Had to have my kid really blast the clutch pedal down to force the air out.
All works well now.

Same here, Valvoline DOT 3. Was all that was on the shelf, I figure its all pretty much the same. Heck, unless the seals leak water would work, for awile at least.
