Default Foot Rest Carpet wear

MY 1991 has 15,000 miles on its. Carpet overall in great shape except area around driver's footrest on left side. Two thread bare areas. Any thoughts on repairs? All the carpet sales I find are for all the carpet or areas I don't need. I thought there might be a plastic cover offered for that area but no luck finding it. My color is red. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum - but if yours is a 1991, you're posting in the wrong place - should be under the C4 section.

I had a threadbare strip in my red '91 too, right next to the footrest. I bought a small strip of red carpet on eBay, cut a sliver out, and glued it in there with automotive carpet glue. Doesn't look perfect but also doesn't attract any attention - basically you can't see it if you're not looking for it.

See before and after pics. Sorry for the before pic being so blurry but hopefully you get the idea.

As to prevention I recommend the fox weather boots.

I've often wondered why no one has come up with a dead pedal cover for this area.

I did the same as ram-g with a twist. Instead of similar carper from eBay, I cut a doner piece under the door sill and shaved rubber backing. Shaved piece was glued on using crazy glue.

Before mine started to wear I cut a small piece of clear vinyl and taped it to the problem area over lapping the edge.

I did something similar on the '95. My BMW dealership was using clear plastic floor mats for its used cars which were adhesive on the back. I just cut out a piece of that material and stuck it on the carpet where my foot would tend to wear it. Great solution if you have not got much wear to begin with. I believe that kind of adhesive clear plastic material is also sold at home improvement stores as a carpet protector, but usually in large rolls. Anyone who is a remodeling contractor would have some. BTW, I also put some to the right of the accelerator pedal when my foot tends to wear the carpet. Worked great, no wear.--Bob

When I did my auto conversion I was using Fox weather boots to protect
my carpets. But I found that my left foot had no go place to rest. So I
made a dead pedal out of aluminum and pop rivet it to the weather boot
Now my left foot can rest and the carpets stay clean.
