My 1990 originally came from California, so the front bumper doesn't have any holes behind the 'CORVETTE' cover to mount a license plate.
I'm in IL, front license plate required. Also wanted to mount my IPASS on the front plate. What does your front license plate mounting setup look like on your 1990? |

Just use two sided tape to tape the transponder where the plate would be and snap the cover back in at the top ( you do not even need to remove the two lower screws).
Done. ![]() Marty |

The provisions are in the bumper for the plate.

Now see you are running a plate. Mount it under the hood. It will read it. Many put it on the cowl area. ![]() Marty |

I'm in Illinois also and I did mount a front plate on both my ZR-1s when I had them. They both had screw holes I believe but I can't recall if they were just the holes for the CORVETTE cover plate or if I had to drill a couple of new ones. For my IPass transponder I just put it under the V1 radar detector in the windshield cut out. The detector held it in place without the need for velcro strips, but I am sure you could put them there if you don't carry a radar detector. It was important for me to have both the V1 and the IPass there and easily accessible because I swapped them between the ZR-1 and my BMW fairly regularly. --Bob

Lol, they must have bigger fish to fry up north. I've tried that route down here and saw the State cherries and blueberries in my rearview. And it was some old woman state trooper, so I knew ticket was forth coming.....I remember saying f%$# it whatever, but a few days later the local boys pulled me over. So that was that.... |

I am in IL too. When I had my 96 LT4 Corvette I got busted for no front plate. I put one on my ZR-1 as well because I was tired of watching the cops every time they passed me going the other way.
Besides, now people can know it?s a ZR-1 from the front too. Last edited by pappy.72; 04-21-2021 at 09:33 PM. |
