In all of my auto welding training I never heard of this. Crazy

I had never heard of it in my limited welding training either, only in my medical training.

http://www.bt.cdc.gov/agent/phosgene/basics/facts.asp

It can form from brake cleaners and also freon when they are exposed to welding heat and its UV rays.

Be careful gents

You will know if Phosgene gas is present. I have came in contact with it many times as a pipe-fitter in Chicago.

The issue is some bad things you are just never told about.

Kinda like welding on galvanized steel. You only learn about the dangers by word of mouth.
